Dosage Time

Post by rule62 »

Just curious about what time other Suboxone patients take their medication. For such a long time it would make me a little tired during the day so I started taking it late, after work, etc. Then if I do get a little tired no harm is done. My prescribing doctor told me to take it between 9 and 10AM and that was the problem. Even reducing my dose to only 1-2mg's didn't seem to help. My job is driving so it's kind of important to stay alert.

Do others get sleepy or tired a few hours after taking their dose? Not sure if I'm in the minority or not.

I wish we had more comments lately... Rule, have you tried signing up as a new person to see if it is running smoothly? I'll try that later in the day... But on your subject there are a couple meds -- modafinil (Provigil) and armodafinil (Nuvigil) that are not stimulants, but they block sleepiness pretty effectively. They are indicated for 'shift work sleep disorder' or for daytime drowsiness from treated sleep apnea. They used to be very expensive, but the price has come down with the GoodRX coupon. They work best if not used every day, because a tolerance can develop. But for intermittent use, they are a great treatment for drowsiness and they seem to be very safe from what I've seen. Not addictive like stimulants can be, and no rise in HR or blood pressure.

Hi all,
I am very, very surprised that you can take sub at night and then fall asleep! IME opioids tend to keep a person in a blissful state that is restful, but never actually falling asleep until the bupe lessens its effect some hours after taking it.

The buprenorphine I take is only 1-2 mgs and that doesn't hype me up. Such a low dose still makes me tired after about 3-4 hours so that works for me. I do know what you're talking about if I take 8mgs or more. And it does hype me up in the first few hours. But then I'm home so who cares?

Suboxone seems to affect people differently and that's how it affects me. It took years for me to get the dosage and time of day right, so it doesn't affect me negatively. Experiment with it to find what works for you.

Like the OP, bupe makes tired after a few house. Doc Junig recommended "modafinil (Provigil) and armodafinil (Nuvigil)" I just copied and pasted this from his post. Might talk to my doctor about these meds and see what he says. Taking it after work or in the evening sounds like a good idea and one I'll probably start doing. Both of my Suboxone doctors told me to take it around 9-10am. Used to live in one state and then moved so finding a new prescriber had me concerned until I found my current doc. Eventuall I'll move back to my home state and then will need find my old doctor or a different one who won't have a problem with me being on it for over a decade. The doctor I have now told me in the first visit that his patients can only take Sub for six months and then have to get off it. Lucky for me he changed his mind or maybe he just does it for me and I won't ask.

Maybe all the docs who take the Sub course are told to tell there patients to take it in the morning. And both docs wanted me to take one 8mg dose instead of the 4-6 mgs I normally take. Won't ask that question either. I'm just happy to have found one who understands I need this med for the rest of my life unless something happens and I have to stop. Who knows??

What happened to all the posters here? Years ago this place was jumpin'. Is there some other Suboxone site I don't know about? I used to go to Subsux but they aren't online anymore. At least they weren't the last time I checked. It's been quite awhile since my last visit here so "Hi" to anyone who remembers me. I just don't post very often and prefer to just lurk and learn. Do hope more people start logging in here. This place has a ton of good info for newbies on Sub.

Same here; I take mine after work. After a couple/few hours I get mildly drowsy and that's enough to keep from taking my dose at work. I take 1/3 of an 8mg strip daily, FYI.
