Sweating - How to help it?
Sweating - How to help it?
So i'm experiencing more sweating than usual when i do something, and i've read that this can come as a side effect from Sub*. I read somewhere that you can use cinnamon to help against this? I don't remember where i read it but maybe someone here knows what that person meant? Are there any other ways to help it?

Re: Sweating - How to help it?
Sweating can definitely be a side effect of buprenorphine, especially in the beginning. I’ve spoken about it several times here. I’d do the simplest little things and be drenched. I’d blow dry my hair and by the time I was done the part of my hair underneath near my neck would be soaked. This was my every day for a bit in the beginning but it did get better. Heck it’s still very hot and humid here in the south but I don’t sweat near as much as I used to. So hang in there because it does get better..... don’t know anything about the cinnamon thing though. Try it, you never know

Re: Sweating - How to help it?
How long did it take until the sweating got better? I've been on it for almost 2½ weeks now
Re: Sweating - How to help it?
I can’t remember but it lasted a good bit for me. Now keep in mind that I’ve been going through early menopause and I have hot flashes and during that time in the beginning it was way worse than now. If I’m guessing, I think my side effects lasted a month or two until it started getting better. That doesn’t mean it’ll be like that for you, so who knows.
Even though I had the side effect of sweating profusely, I never had a side effect that mentally bothered me because I was so happy and excited to be rid of cravings that I would have been happy regardless so I never paid a lot of attention to it. My mental state went to grateful and it’s stayed that way, I think that’s why I cannot exactly remember when it started easing up, I just bulldozed through it
with a huge smile of relief.

There is a treatment, Glycopyrrollate. It is used off label for excess sweating. For some its side-effects are worse than the sweating. It can cause dry eyes, dry mouth, dry colon which worsens the constipation.
Most develop a tolerance for the sweating. I am not aware that it is particularly dose dependent unless you wean down to really low doses of Buprenorphine.

Interesting! I haven't read much about this yet, but the side-effects doesn't sound that fun! Do you have any idea how long it'd take to get rid of the side effects in case they appear?docm2 wrote:There is a treatment, Glycopyrrollate. It is used off label for excess sweating. I also find this one, looks interesting(Methadone-Induced Hyperhidrosis Treated With Oxybutynin): https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5457832/
I also read that this can help, another method of treatment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botulinum_toxin#Sweating
But some of you say that the sweating goes away after a while, how long did it take for you (if you remember)? Anyone who the sweating have followed them for a longer time as a side-effect of buprenorphine?
Re: Sweating - How to help it?
This is interesting! This is probably where i read about the cinnamon
http://www.suboxforum.com/sweating-t4560.html
I have alot of options now, gonna start trying the cinnamon pills if i can find them. If it doesn't work i'm gonna discuss the other 2 options i just posted about and also ask if he has any other ideas. Cheers!

Yah, we don't usually allow links for specific products, but if anyone is curious they can PM you to get the link.
It's great that you have found something that works to combat the sweating! Fortunately for me, I've never had to deal with that side effect. Thanks for the information!

Re: Sweating - How to help it?
I have had terrible hyperhidrosis ever since I can remember, at least since 4 yrs old, Started with sweaty hands and feet as a child (I mean literally DRIPPING off my skin), and it has only gotten worse with age (Im 27). Now it is my entire body, face, as well as hands & feet. It gets worse during times of anxiety or stress, and is ALWAYS bad in the mornings ever since I decreased my dose below 6mg (which makes me feel like I am withdrawling in the mornings).
I hate it because it reminds me of detoxing and makes me feel like I am withdrawling. Nothing is more uncomfortable than wearing clothes drenched in sweat and not being able to change or cool off..... soaked undies & bra? YUCK
Doesn't matter the season or time of year for me. The smallest amount of physical activity starts this cycle that takes a long time to go away. When I get out of the shower, the water on my skin INSTANTLY turns to sweat and I am dripping sweat until about 2 hours later when my body has finally cooled off. It happens year round.
By the way Im on 3mg and have been on suboxone for a little over 4 years. I have gone as low as 1mg but with the sweating getting worse the lower I go, that made me feel like I was hitting withdrawls every morning and I was not ready to deal with that (and get off suboxone) so I thought it was pointless to keep suffering every single day for no reason....It still happens though. I actually think I need to raise my dose because I dont think the 3mg is keeping me "even" for the full 24 hours in between doses, hence the crappy feeling & sweating every morning, but nobody seems to believe its possible to withdrawl between doses - ESPECIALLY doctors.)
Since I have hyperhidrosis, that was always the most noticable and most bothersome withdrawal effect for myself. It has not gotten any better "with time". I actually think it has gotten worse because I feel the worst in the mornings, until a couple hours after I take my suboxone and it gets into my system. Which is why I think I might need to go up, it is pointless to go through this every single day if I am not ready to completely get off yet.
But I will be a sweaty mess regardless. It sucks. I take Clonidine for anxiety and I take .2mgs every morning and I do think that has helped cut back on the sweating in the mornings, but nothing will ever take it away completely. At least for me.
Make sure you wear breathable clothes, cotton. And try stronger anti-perspirants, powder always helps too, at least to just help you FEEL not as "gross". There is also aersol anti-perspirant that you can spray directly onto your skin, on your "problem areas". Certain-Dri is great too, a roll on that I apply to my feet soles & palms right before bed.
I did buy cinnamon capsules awhile back, but I am scared to try it, as I already have GERD & Acid Reflux.
Good Luck-- I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!
if anyone has any other remedies, please share!!!!!!!

Re: Sweating - How to help it?
It's good to hear from you, Jess!
I'm sorry you've had to deal with this your whole life and be on a medication that makes it worse! I sweat somewhat, but it takes a lot to make me. The flip side, though, is that my face gets as red as a beet when I'm hot and don't sweat enough to cool down. I've been on the verge of heat stroke several times because I don't sweat efficiently! My mom was the exact same way.
I guess we all play the hand we are dealt and just have to put up with this crap!

Re: Sweating - How to help it?
Talk to a doctor about it Jess! I talked to one who told me if it gets worse there are chemical injections, and probably another handful of solutions to hyperhidrosis.
To me it sounds like your hyperhidrosis is not related to opiates (sure, it probably makes it even worse, but you'd probably have it even without opiates) and should be handled like doctors handle hyperhidrosis (my english skills are lacking here again lol but you understand!)

Re: Sweating - How to help it?
Yes but you know doctors love to blame everything on suboxone. they will say it is a side effect from the med (even tho Ive had this issue since I was in kindergarten at least, for as long as I can even remember)
They will just say to get off suboxone and it will go away, which is NOT true in my case. But advice like that helps nobody. even if it WAS 100% due to suboxone, that is not the best answer, to just "get off of it".
I get botox injections for chronic migraines, and I would love to get botox in my palms and feet, but botox is already costing me over $100/month and I have thousands of dollars worth of debt just from medical bills alone, so I cant really afford any more "treatments" of any kind... with recovery and migraines coming 1st, the sweating relief seems like a luxury when you take into account having to spend lots of money for it. And that wouldnt help the sweating in the rest of my body.... every inch.
I have heard when you get botox injections in certain areas for sweating (like palms & soles or armpits), the sweat just comes out in other parts of your body since it will find its way out regardless. Unless you have surgery to remove some of the overactive sweat glands, but that is way out of my budget!
A couple months ago I had to "pick and choose" what medical treatments were a priority. I picked suboxone, migraine treatments, psychiatry & psychotherapy. I had to discontinue physical therapy and decrease the amount of my psychotherapy appts because I simply couldnt afford everything I was doing. Therapy/counseling alone is over $200/month and I had to cut that in half unfortunately. Living paycheck to paycheck is no fun especially when you take multiple prescriptions and have pressing medical issues that need treatment.
Mental health NEEDS to come first for me, I cant "afford" to put that on the backburner because if im not right mentally, NOTHING is right. I hate that I had to stop physical therapy, but that is just an example of how sometimes you have to deal with one issue in order to afford treatment for another, more important issue.
& dont even get me started on Americas healthcare system....lol
If anyone knows of any other supplements or meds that have helped them please share! I know sweating is a huge thing for many people on methadone maintenance but I actually dont know many people who sweat profusely on suboxone.

Re: Sweating - How to help it?
Lol! That was exactly what i was thinking when i read through your post. Omg your healthcare system sound like shit (excuse my french)! I've lived both in Finland and Sweden and here we have a "high-cost protection system". In Sweden i had all doctors appointments for free for 1 year after i had paid for the first 10 visits (~100 SEK ~10 USD per visit), and for meds all prescribed medicines for free after 1500 SEK (~150 USD). In Finland we have a similar system, I haven't paid one single € for my treatment/medicine (Suboxone) since i started. That is crazy how your nation don't help their residents with their health. I'm gonna stop here, don't wanna go in all flaming on politics.Jess1208 wrote: & dont even get me started on Americas healthcare system....lol![]()
Anyway, here's something i've read earlier that you might find interesting regarding hyperhidrosis (treatments etc., maybe you'll find something useful, maybe not

Re: Sweating - How to help it?
I could jump in here and write a tirade on how bad the healthcare system is, but anyone reading this forum already knows.
I just wanted to say that sweating is my most prominent side effect of Sub. I was on Sub from 2009-2013 and it never subsided. Now I’m back on only 3mg, and at least once a day I get totally soaked in sweat - my face, my hair, sweat rolling down my back...and it’s winter in New England. Sometimes it really gets to me (like when I’m going to a job interview and I don’t want them to think I’m nervous). But otherwise I just accept it. I keep a towel in my car to dry myself off and I carry makeup to reapply. I just keep reminding myself that it’s 100% better than active addiction.

Re: Sweating - How to help it?
Maybe try the sage extract? It works for me, it doesn't remove the excessive sweating totally but it definately helps alot! I'd say for me it takes away at least 50% of the excess (caused by the suboxone for me). I can easily notice that i sweat so much more and faster if i forget to take the sage extract the morning that same day.
Re: Sweating - How to help it?
Liquid herbs make me gag LOL do they make capsule form??
And I tried looking up the recommended dosage of sage when using it for sweating issues but I couldnt find a definite answer?
I did private message you as well!

Re: Sweating - How to help it?
The liquid one i have is mainly alcohol, probably to get the sage liquid at all? I mix 30 drops of it/day in water and just swallow it like a shot (it actually tastes quite OK, it has second uses aswell to clean your mouth so i flush it around my mouth before i swallow = 2in1!Jess1208 wrote:Liquid herbs make me gag LOL do they make capsule form??

You can probably find them as capsules too, i have no idea. Probably try googling it! I'll see to your PM and answer it separately to you

PS. If you're an alcoholic it probably isn't a good idea to use this solution, probably goes without saying lol!
EDIT: I found capsules too now that i started looking for the one i use, i'll link them in the reply to your PM.
EDIT2: The tablets does not seem to contain any alcohol in case anyone's worried about that.
