The little white pills of Subutex and or buprenorphine---- how do they taste in comparison to the Suboxone tablet?

My insurance company is changing to a new plan, and they won't cover the Suboxone tablets anymore, but they WILL cover the strips or the buprenorphine or Subutex. I'm not sure which one costs more, and which one tastes the worst?

Anyone know? Thanks.

Hi Bunny,

I take generic Subutex tabs, they have a little bit of a bitter taste but it is not too strong and doesn't taste too bad. Subutex does not have any sweetner added to it like Suboxone. I used to take the strips and they have a Orange, lemon kinda taste. I do not think either taste good but I don't mind the taste of either.

Generic Subutex is the cheapest, name brand subutex is the most expensive and the strips are in between. I prefer the generic Subutex because I feel best on it but some Drs will not prescribe it. Whichever you wind up on I am sure you will do fine!

Hey Breezy,

Just to clarify, to make sure I got it right, is Subutex simply straight Buprenorphine? I want to make sure I can get the cheapest prescription (I almost typed subscription!) that I can.

Yes, that is correct. I have never had the name brand Subutex but it is just buprenorphine. Without insurance Subutex costs in the area of $600 for 60 8mg tabs and the generic would cost about $170 for the same amount so there is a huge price difference.
