It's really strange. Every doctor, therapist, drug counselor I talk to asks me this.

Why is that important? What's important is that I want to quit.

Hi there Mel,

Ah, the infamous, "So.... What made ya suddenly decide to quit?" as they chew gum and position their body like they are about to hear a really good story. Shame on them! Lol. I hate that!

Really, they should be saying. ... "So you stopped everything? How do you feel about that?!!?"

Duh! Reverse psychology....

I think they are just trying to see where you're at. If you're okay (if you're using.) Its almost as though some of them become numb to their job because they see it everyday. Not all, but definitely some. I'd just say to them, because its my life, and I'm ready for change. Now, would you like to say something about that doc?! :)

I am not against someone wanting to quit or years of maintenance. I do however have to wonder. I am not getting any younger. I know my dr is not going to be around forever either. I see my Mother, My grandparents still driving getting around at 90 plus years old.

I think to myself when I had to put the metal suit on a few days back, I was thinking to myself imagining being in the hurt locker at 65 and beyond thinking ahead 20 years like I did when I was early teens, 14 wanting to do my own thing.

It is all linear. It is... that is life, everything is Linear to each other. I Look so far ahead I can see my back at times. everything is one big 0.

I don't know maybe do a Terminator 2/ Arnold Schwarzenegger the next time a dr annoys you with that question..

Say "Because you told me to" just like that..

Most of the time the Counselors and Therapist ask you why you quit because they want to know it you are stopping suboxone for YOU and not for someone else. Such as your parents, your spouse. Alot of time the outside world puts pressure on us to stop being on medication of any kind. So the therapist wants to make sure you are doing this on your own because YOU want to. Cause if you are stopping Subxone for someone else, it usually will not work.

I used to feel ashamed that I was taking Suboxone because of pressure from my "addiction" uneducated parents and spouse. I felt like if I was off everything, I would magically have a great life. When ...I already had one on my medicine. So needless to say I am happy to be back on suboxone and I will get off suboxone when I WANT to if not I am going to be one of those 90+ seniors putting a film in my mouth before I back out my wheelchair.

For c= 1 to 16384
For w = 1 to 1048576
Cells (w,c).Value = "Life is beautiful!"
Next w
Next c

Apparently people who program in Visual Basic for Applications are happier than c++ folks?

did I just land in the Twilight Zone on some distant planet a long long away?

Ooohhh, I get it, all that LSD I took years ago kicked back in....

Sorry, you guys are talking a language that is miles above my head. As far as the subject is concerned, I have no answer. I do like the Terminator one though. Right to the point.

Melneri,

The doctor is probably asking you that hoping you don't say, "well, I'm not an addict anymore, I don't need Suboxone anymore."

I think it's Amber4.14.11 whose doctor told her that before she quits, she has to give him 3 reasons why.

These folks are just trying to make sure you're quitting for the right reasons.

Rule62, don't you know what VB and C++ are? Dude, are you from Pluto?

I should have been more clear. I equate "quiting" with my decision to replace what I was using with medically supervised suboxone.

"What made you decide to quit [using full agonist opioids]? [why now?]"

I suspect they are expecting that some life changing event occurred. A "rock bottom" event. Some sort of catalyst. Maybe they're handicapping wagers on how soon I relapse.

I answered my caseworker at the clinic I went to with the truth. I had very little left of my life. In 3 short years I had lost a wife, a house a Gf, frowned, bla bla. All of my money. Retirement is a lost dream for me now. Still have alot of the past chasing me. So I gave them the bottom story I had to quit that day. Choises were slim. I feel I was one of the lucky ones. 28 months and doing well. I don't look to far down to road these days. I try not to look back either.

I wonder if they asked you that to see if you're serious about getting on Suboxone? I imagine they get some people in there, like we've had on the forum, who just Suboxone when they run out of their drug of choice. They use Suboxone just to get them to their next fix. That may be why they asked you those questions?

That's a good point I hadn't considered. I guess these little strips can fetch a few dollars on the street.

I'm always curious about what a person's "bottom" might be myself. I wonder if some of it is just curiosity.

It's hard to be curious about something that you've seen all over youtube. ;)
