Tramadol is the only drug the Dr.s gave me for 4 yrs prior to my spinal C6-C7 fusion, Oh my God, after the surgery I could not live without it, some laugh at its weekness, but it had a strangle hold on my life.. after getting up to 15-20, 50mg pills per day I needed 4mg of Suboxone to stabilize... theres an SSRI in it also, nothing made feel as good as tramadol, Mike

I agree wholeheartedly with the previous two posters. At the end of my active addiction I took tons of tramadol because it was easy to get and I thought it was painkiller "lite". Was I ever wrong. The withdrawal is a living hell.

Tramadol, being a pro-drug that has to be converted to an opiate in the liver, requires a specific enzyme for this process (I forget what it's called). Some people lack this enzyme, and therefore the conversion doesn't happen. I guess that's why to some people it's like candy and they can't figure out why the rest of us have a problem with it.
