I've had a really difficult time finding a good doctor. So far in three months, I've seen three suboxone drs. Let me explain.
My first Dr. walked out of the practice after about a month, now that particular clinic, I've heard, is under some scrutiny for other things as well and may be closing for good. I kinda thought the place was a little shady. If you asked how much something cost, you'd get different answers from every employee you asked. They didn't even try to call patients when the doctor took off, some traveled hoursfor their appt. Only to be told there was no prescriber. The rates were crazy expensive! 400 induction, 150 weekly for a month, then 150 bi weekly for a month, them 150 monthly. This is just for five minute visit with nurse to pick up script and ua. Also mandatory counseling at same intervals for 110.00. Then of course the cost of the medication itself. I was going broke fast! Three first month cost me 2000.00 not including my travel costs! Ouch!

Now the next Dr.that I found pretty quickly, only had suboxone clinic from 1 till 5 on Saturday was less expensive, but was a nightmare! My first visit, my ua was negative for sub, obviously wrong since I take 24 mgs a day, but this Dr. swore I was diverting my meds, until the lab results came back days later, then I got a less than humble apology! My next visit, not much better, about fiftysuboxone patients , asked to wait in a separate waiting room, and nearly all if us test positive for Oxy! Wtf? Of course this doctors tests are inaccurate, and the lab confirmed this was wrong! mandatory group counseling was scheduled for that day, and the counselor was three hours late! Didn't matter though because I sat in that waiting room for over three hours anyway. When my name is called finally, I see a Dr. I've never seen before, as my DDR. Didn't show up that day either! Now I was getting mad! I got my script and swore to never return there!

I went to the naabt website and signed up for the Dr. locator service where I type in my zip code and how far I'll travel, and what I'm looking for in a Dr. this info is sent to providers in your search area, and then providers get in touch with patients they'd like to see by email. It took a few days, but I got response. I emailed the doctor who responded, and got a call the next day! He was exactly the kind of doctor I'd been looking for. He and several other doctors have a very professional practice with reasonable rates and take time to talk to patients, and even better, no arbitrary time limits on treatment! he talked on phone with me for half hour answering all my questions, my first appt is Wednesday!

I'd heard that there were good doctors out there, but wad beginning to wonder where? All doctors in this practice are addiction specialists, and the one I'm going to see is a psychiatrist also, yay! Hr is also the president of the North Carolina society of addiction medicine. I finally feel like I'm going to get good treatment!

Anyway, my long winded point here is that the naabt doctor patient match service really works! If you're unhappy with your provider, give it a try!

apparently there is no shortage of providers in the Durham, Raleigh, area of NC, because many of the doctors here are accepting patients. Hope this helps someone!

Yea, those bad experiences were making me think that all bupe providers were in it for reasons other than helping addicts get well.$$$!

what kept me searching were the members here who said their docs were great and understanding. I can think of two of the top of my head, Amy and Amber said they loved their doctors and Amy wished she could clone hers! I'm really hoping my experience will be equally as good! Thanks for the good wishes! Instead of being a nervous wreck before my appointment like I have been, I'm actually looking forward to it!

Just wanted to let you guys know how my appt with the new Dr went today........it went awesome!

My appointment started on time, which is a big deal to me, after all my time is valuable too! He started out with the normal questions, just getting to know me, ya know. Then he got into the actual details of my addiction, and really listened with great interest, writing something down every so often, and asking questions to make sure he understood. We talked for an hour and developed a real plan of action, for counseling, group, and treating some phobias,(driving in traffic, or long distances)I actually pay people to drive me places I get so panicked behind the wheel, and anxieties of mine and for my ocd and depression. He explained to me how we'll use different methods and approaches for dealing with past traumas, and guilt. He told me how guilt can really hold recovery back, and said we'd really with hard on that one. Once I get my computer, and don't have to pound it all out on a phone, I'll share my whole addiction story with you all. I read all of Ambers story last night, and our stories are similar, and it really made me wanna tell mine, but it's soooooo much to try to type on a little phone keyboard. I'm saving up for a laptop! ;-) after you read it, I'm hoping maybe some of you guys will have some insight about the fears and guilt idk.

Any who....

I left feeling quite relieved and hopeful that finally I'll really get well. my sister and I went to a late lunch and it was real nice. Calling it a good day. Just wanted to keep y'all updated. My new Dr is awesome!

Yes, it really works.

I tried "treatment match" and got 1 response in a couple of hours on a Friday night. The next day I got 3 more. I don't know how they'll work out but I'll be calling 3 of the 4 replies Monday. The fourth wanted $450 for the initial visit. Way to high for me. Especially since I've been on Sub for years and I just need a doc to write refills since I moved to S. Florida.

Good luck to everyone in your search.

Rubby

I just love naabt! I was able to find several doctors in my area (I set how many miles I wanted to travel) and received responses that next day. I was able to call around and interview potential clinics and that is where I found the one I am at right now! LOVE IT!

Hi Rubby and Amy! Thanks for posting on the forum!

I'm glad to hear that treatment match worked for you both. If you don't mind saying what general area you are from, or at least the state, that would be great information for us to have!

Amy
