Several years ago when I was at a pain clinic, I was on oxycodone 10/325 4x a day. Well, the pain was pretty bad, so when I visited my primary doctor, I was in tears because the oxycodone wasn't even working as well (and I was just frustrated). He called the pain clinic and said "you need to go see them right now".

I stopped in there, and the doctor gave me a 2nd prescription for oxycodone 10/325, and labeled it 'for breakthrough pain'. I just took a few extra of my original 120, and waited to fill the 2nd script, but was still under the 8 he was now giving me a day.

About a week later, I was running low on the oxycodone so I decided to go and fill the breakthrough pain script. I dropped it off at Walgreens, and told them I'd be back the next day.

I returned the next day, and they said "We cannot fill it! its too soon! Your insurance company rejected it and you need to have the doctor call to clear it! I offered to pay cash and they said "NO WAY". So I left, I didn't want to cause a scene. I started to get nervous, I had 1 pill left and it was Saturday morning and I knew what would be starting in about 12 hours if I didn't get the prescription filled.

I returned around 11pm, and a new pharmacist was working. I asked to speak to him. I told him "Look, the prescription says 'for breakthrough pain' on it, its from the same doctor. I know that its a Schedule II drug and that they say its too soon to fill, but, honestly if I don't get it, I'm going to be very sick and in pain". He looked at me and said, "Ok, I'll fill it, but you have to pay cash". Phew.

So they prepared the script and it was a whopping $120 for 56 pills, but hey that didn't matter. The clerk was afraid to ring it up saying "I don't want anything to do with this transaction!".

Next time I saw the doctor I told him about my experience and he said "If they give you any more shit have them call me!".. Sure buddy, on a Saturday I'm sure you'll pick up the phone at the pain clinic!
