Hello I'm a Swedish guy who hasn't written much on this forum, mostly only in the beginning of my treatment last year when i still had some difficulties, now however things are going perfect and I work three days a week.

Anyway, to the point: I'm planning to visit the US (Massachusetts specifically) this summer.

I wonder is there some international program with special documents so I can use American pharmacies as a point of taking getting the medicine? Or am I supposed to bring the medicine (12 mg of suboxone per day) for a whole month with some document with a statement from my doctor that proves it's really my medicine.

My worst fear would be that someone in Sweden would say that some specific documents are all I need, and that when I get there it turns out I actually needed to bring even more paperwork. And that they'd confiscate my meds or even cause me serious legal issues.

Hi Swedish Guy! I'm sorry that I don't have any information for you. I can certainly understand why you want to be prepared before you visit the States. I'm hoping that someone with more international travel experience will come along to answer your question.

It seems like you would be covering all of your bases if you have a copy of your prescription plus a letter from your doctor. I think it would be easier to bring your own medication than to try to obtain sub here.

Amy

Hi Swede,

You should have no problem with just bringing in your legally prescribed medication into the U.S. I've traveled abroad and no one questioned my medication. I kept it in my carry on bag so it wouldn't be any further than a few feet away from me at all times. And yes, I would ask the doctor to give you a months supply to travel with. I have no idea if you could use a prescription from outside the U.S. in our pharmacies. The medication is probably not the same. It wouldn't hurt to call one of our pharmacies like CVS and ask. All they can do is say no. But your doctor would know the answer to that one anyway.

Enjoy your stay here!
