It's been quite a while since I've posted.

In April I had a BIG shoulder surgery. It was endoscopic (they did not cut me wide open) but had to rebuild almost all of my shoulder. Since I waited 6 months after the injury, there wasn't much to work with left over.
I just finished rehab THIS WEEK... and I am still not back to normal.
Anyway.... surgery and suboxone....

I told my surgeon that I am a pain med addict. (This is his second surgery on me.) I told him I've been on suboxone for 18 months. I gave him the papers found on this site. I told him I would need high dosages of oxycodone or heavier. He said oxy is the max he will give.

I stopped suboxone 36 hours before surgery and took one xanax at a time when withdrawal began. (My sub doc got pissed since this combo is a no-no). anyway... it helped take the edge off.

Surgery day... they use a block, which is fantastic... until it wears off. I was prescribed 60 of 10mg percocet. I had to take 30mg at a time at first for relief. I weaned down as pain subsided. By Day 3 I was below 20mg at a time, and withdrawal began. I started taking 1mg of suboxone a day then, and the withdrawal went away!!!!!!!!!!! WOW !!! I read that here right before surgery !!! It WORKS !!!

I was able to wean down and by day 5 I finished the percocet... right as I used up the last one. NO REFILLS. By that time I was down to 1/2 of one 10mg percocet. I waited 36 hours, while still taking the 1mg suboxone a day... then started back on my 4mg suboxone per day.

NO WITHDRAWAL.... NO PAIN.

The 1mg of suboxone per day while taking oxycodone worked perfectly !!!!

By the way. today I am down to 1.33mg of suboxone per DAY. I should be finished in the next 3 months !!!!

SUBOXONE WORKS !!!!

Thanks so much for posting that info lbanks4. I've read the paper on it suggesting doing it that way but to tell the truth I didn't really believe it. You proved exactly what Dr. Junig posted, that the chances are low that an addict will relapse after surgery using full agonist pain meds. Although I was one of those who did but got back on my Sub very quickly.

We have a lot of inquiries here concerning Suboxone and surgery so this one will surely help to have in our archives.

Glad you're feeling better!

Yes, THANKS very much for posting this information, and

GREAT JOB getting down so low

isn't it WIERD how much things have changed in 5-8 years????
I mean "high dose" of full agonist is sixty of the 10mg percs???

I remember in like 2004,,,,, I was working and a guy dropped a 2x4 off the 4th tier of the scaffold, that thing landed on my foot, had to go to the E.R.
ALL that happened, was I broke my two small toes, they gave me FORTY of the 5mg oxycodones, with a refill.

It didnt even hurt that bad, but there was NO WAY I was gonna complain!!!!

Anyways, thanks again for posting this,,,,,,
and seriously good job on your taper.

GOOD LUCK with the rest

i weaned the other 1/3mg per day and now I take 1mg per day.

Again, when I started suboxone I was taking 30mg per day.

I will stay at 1mg per day for a month, until I've felt stable at this dose for a good long time.

Then I will reduce to 1/2 mg per day, per SubDoc's suggestion, and stay there for 4 to 6 weeks.

Then I quit.

My own doctor told me he will put me on a compazine patch after that. I had never heard of it.
It turns out that a common use for it is opiate withdrawal. OK.

More in a month or so.
