Can Subutec be prescribed by any physician? My girlfriend went to treatment and while there they told her there was something that can be prescribed by your primary physician that many people don't know about, but I can't remember what it is called.

Hi -
Subutex, which has the same main ingredient as Suboxone except without the naloxone, still requires the special DATA 2000 waiver for a doctor to prescribe it. That said, any doctor can prescribe either one without the waiver ONLY IF it's being prescribed off-label for pain management. However, many doctors don't know that and may not even believe you if you told them that. I've had arguments with doctors over that very subject myself. Or even if they know it they might not agree to prescribe it - but technically they can.

I hope this helps.

It is called Naltrexone (sp?)...it's just an opiate blocker. Anyone familiar with this?

Yes, naltrexone is different from naloxone, the extra ingredient in sub. But you're welcome anyway.
