I was on suboxone from february 2006 until september 2011. Started out on 8mg and quickly tapered to 2mg but stayed on that for the majority of the 5 years unable to jump off completley by myself. Around may 2011 I had my testosterone level checked and the doc said that my number was 201 which is the very low end of the average "bell curve" but he said since I was only 29 at the time of the test that putting me on replacement therapy could ruin my chances of having kids one day so he reluctantly sent me home with nothing but cialis. I was motivated at that time to really try and stop suboxone and see if that was the reason for the low sex drive, tiredness, weight gain, and general feeling of unhappiness.
In september I took a week off work and checked myself into a detox facility. A week later I checked out- went home- and began a month and a half long mental and physical hell. Thats another story but to sum this one up> I had my T level checked again just one week ago. When the doc walked into the room with the lab report in hand he had a shocked look on his face and said to me...
"Remind me, Did I prescibe you androgel?"
I said- No.
He said- Well what is your secret because you went from 201 to 645.
I didnt tell him about the suboxone I was on for 5 years because I didnt want him to have a bias about helping me.
Today is January 8th 2012 and still have not went back on suboxone but was put on an old anti-depressant called Nortriptlyne because I still dont feel right and have considered going back on the subs but for now taking it one day at a time I guess. Hope this helps someone else... sorry so long winded but wanted to give a fuller picture.

yea, that suboxone definely lowers testosterone in men,no doubt bout it,i feel the same way as you did while takin suboxone,im still on it and have been since 07,plus i was on it from 05to06 and started out on it from 03to04,using everytime i would get off it,so i stayed on it for good since 07,now my sub. dr has passed away suddenly and i dont know what im gonna do,he gave me t-injections and they worked for awhile but would wear off fast.as soon as i find another dr im gonna start tryin to taper down to a lower dose thats for sure, still on 16mgs as we speak, hang in there blind, you can make it,i know its rough, see if dr will give you some provigil for energy.you can so this,so much time has passed.

Oh man thats to bad but I am happy to hear??? I am 28 years old my husband is 31 and we both take suboxocone. Let me just say that he has no desire for sex anymore and its really really messed with me emotionally. Its gotten to the point were he told me to quit asking him.....Its bad guys.....But lately Ive put peices together and I think that the suboxocone has alot to do with it.....

Hi ohsosheana,

A decreased sex drive while on Suboxone seems to be a fairly common side effect. I know it happened to me.

If I were you, I'd ask my husband (that sounded weird saying "my husband" because I'm a guy!! lol) to go to the doctor and get his testosterone levels checked. If they are low, the doctor can present him with several options to raise them. An increase in testosterone should help his sex drive come back.

Good luck.

^^^

Today, it is becoming increasingly more common for a husband to have a husband! (Not saying that is bad, I support equality).

My test levels came back in the 400s, I am in my late 20s. They said that was normal.

Yeah... this side-effect is not nice. The way it can mess with a relationship has seriously made me consider going back on methadone. I'm a 28 year old guy who feels like a sexual geriatric.

My goal is to reduce to 8mg from 12mg, as I've noticed that reduction has made a big difference in the past.

Like... what hope does a guy have if he can't replace a heroin addiction with something healthier ... like a sex addiction?

I too had the problem until my doctor prescribed the Androgel and I reduced my Sub to 4mgs. Then I was like a teenager for two weeks until I evened out. Thought I was going through puberty again!

For me it was really just getting testosterone treatment and now I'm okie dokie.
