My Suboxone Doctor will not prescribe Ambien with Suboxone. I was on Seroquel and couldn't breathe while on it. I really need some help sleeping. If Ambien isn't a narcotic, why can't I take it? Anyone have any thoughts/experiences I can relay to my Doctor? Thanks

I certainly can't speak for you doctor nor can I speak as any kind of an expert. Did your doc give you an explanation as to why he won't prescribe Ambien for you? My only thought is that perhaps he just doesn't like it for some reason. Doctors, like anyone else, seem to have preferences and definite likes and dislikes when it comes to medications.
There is an abuse potential with Ambien.....maybe that's all it is......he just may not want his patients on anything with even a remote chance of abuse.
I have used Ambien myself and had no problems stopping it and didn't get any particular 'thrill' out of it. However, one of the nurses in the Peer Assistance Program I was in for several months was in trouble just for abusing Ambien. She admitted to no other substance abuse (nor was there reason to believe otherwise)....no alcohol nor other drugs of any kind. What a waste.....Ambien?! I never quite got that one!!
You just never know!!

He just said "possible interactions". I took the same dose for ten years and never got into trouble. BUT, he's the one with the Pen so I have to go with his style. Thanks for your input!

I read that ambien can cause respiratory problems when combined with suboxone and it is contraindicated. It would be kind of like him recommending alcohol or benzos. Most responsible docs won't, however, if you have a tolerance to the ambien already the reality is it probably wouldn't be an issue.

I just have to say....good lord people. I slept so much on suboxone I can't even imagine what would have happened if I took ambien with it!!!!!

Oh.....I did take ambien on it once. At my cousins funeral after drinking for the better part of the evening and then in my drunken state I decided to try and ambien. I feel lucky I woke up.
