I know some times posts are tl;dr. But the question is colored blue so you can skip the not super important parts. Thanks!
I've posted only once before. I've found a lot of good answers on this forum. But here's a toughy:
I used bupe on the street, on and off, for 2 years. Finally I found a place to go:I went to a daily dosing clinic (subutex) for a few months. 40$ a day wasn't sustainable. Left there. Found another dr. a month or two later. Was there for 2 months. They stopped taking my insurance. NOW, it's been 2 or so months since I left the last doctor. I found a new doctor!!! OMG I'M SO HAPPY. (I was getting it off the street, which is shakey. Some days there is none, etc) She is so nice. She takes my insurance! My insurance will pay my prescriptions! Best case scenario doctor here. So understanding and sweet. But one thing is wrong:

I'm currently taking 4-6mg of bupe a day. I haven't used ANY other drug in 8 months. I'm stable on my dose to the point I could go without and won't be in withdrawal for 3 days. My new doctor says I must quit! I must be 100% off my suboxone for 5+ days to start her program. UHG! She starts all new patients with the induction protocol (cows worksheet, 4 hour office visit, the works) No matter the drug you were on before.

I understand WHY she does this, I really do. But I have a life. I have a toddler. I have no family or close enough friends to watch my child. I'll be irritable at first, anxious, then days 3-5 (or more) will be full blown sick. Also, I don't drive. I ride my bike to this doctor. I can't imagine riding a bike 2 miles in withdrawal. It would be HELL.

So what would you do? I'm thinking of not using for about 3 days. To the point I'm kind of sick, but not full blown withdrawal. Then I could play up my symptoms (shaking, shivering, rocking like I can't sit still, etc). I understand she doesn't want to dose someone who is already on something (liability). And she wants to find the right dose for me over a 3 day period (with sub in my system that would throw things off a bit). But I know the right dose for me. I've been through this multiple times now. What do YOU think?

Ok, if it were me, I would reduce my dose until I was reinducting. Its crazy to expect an addict who is stable on subs, to go cold turkey for 5 days just to get back on it. Really?

Makes no damn sense. So, if I was in your shoes, I would keep taking it right on up to the day I had my dr appt. Thats my honest opinion.

Thank you. I figured i would get a smartass "just do what the doctor says!". I'm glad you understand. I took half my dose yesterday, didn't take it today, and wont tomorrow (day of appointment.)

Wow. So this forum is pretty slow. If any one cares, this is what happened:
I went in sick (didn't take any for 4 days). I saw a different doctor than who I saw last week. He told me "SHE told you to stop your suboxone?! I would never tell a stable patient such a thing." He talked me through a basic course on addiction, the brain, and how suboxone works. (Yeah yeah I know it all already. This isn't my first rodeo... I'm sick, hurrryyy). I got my script called in. Waited. Waited. Waited. FINALLY. Wait, insurance didn't go through??????? PRE AUTH?! I ended up buying 2 days worth (50$!!!) and waited. Finally (3 days later) my insurance went through. So I'm good. For now.

Jeez! What a pain! Yup, the new doctor may be nice, but she obviously doesn't totally know what she's doing. The other doctor sounded more informed.

I hope this is the last upheaval you have. With surgeries/injuries and new doctors, your life has been a little bit difficult!

Amy
