The area I live in their are no NA meetings only AA. The closest NA meeting is over an hour away.. anyways I know the basics of starting the meeting like I need drinks, cookies/snacks, the sober chips ect i also want to do a closed group unless open is better I'm new to this so I'm not sure what to pick. I don't have many friends in the area so I want to post something on Craigslist maybe?? Haha I know sounds strange! I'm not really sure where else to ask for someone to help me run the meetings. If someone could help me out that would be awesome anything helps from what to bring, best place to host the meetings, what to say. I really want to make this happen :)
Thank you!

Hello Sublime,
Starting a new group takes time and effort. The first thing id would do is find another person who is willing to help you on site.
You will need a meeting place. Either a rehab or more likely a chruch. You can ask them about rent payments and such. You need to get the word out but without breaking NA tradition of attraction not promotion. This can be done in the local newspaper.
Also, are there addicts at your local AA meetings who could help you that want an NA group?

You will need start up money. Books, plus there are several information cards that are read at the beginning of the meeting that you will need.
I would go to NA World Services web page and read as much as you can there. They have all the information you ll need.
Ive helped start a group in town here 3 years ago. The number one thing you will need are people, and that can take aloug time...or not.

To get the work out I see nothing wroug with useing the internet. Graigslist included.
I have a question, have been to NA before? Seen how there meetings are run? The chairperson (You) reads a pre amble and asks for readings and such. ?..

If it were me, Id start it as an Open meeting for all to see. This wojld attract more people, maybe. Will this be a Sub friendly meeting? I assume it will be. ..

Sub, you can PM me if you wish. I really don't do NA these days, but it is great for people in early recovery, sub or no sub.

Razor..

So it's going to cost a lot of money? I'm totally broke right now but I feel like I need this in my life so I'll do whatever I can to make this happen. No I haven't been to na theirs none in my area! I've only been to aa from what I've read their a lot alike. Yes it will be suboxone friendly even methadone I want people to feel like they can come to my meeting and not feel out of place like I do every time I go to aa. So if I went to a aa meeting and asked if people wanted to go to my new NA meeting would that be to much? I feel like it would rude... I am a girl and I've heard bad stuff about aa and na about how guys will try to pick me up or even get hands on with me but I don't want to start this meeting all freak out I'm not saying that's going to happen but the very first aa meeting I went to this guy tried to take me on a date that night... I planned on putting an add in both my local newspapers, facebook, flyers and craigslist and hope for the best! I think I will pm you thank you!

Hey Sub, it does not need to cost you alot of money. But there are some things about the progfam you need to know.
Feel free to message me. I think what your doing is a good thing. AA an NA are the same but Very different as well. Program wise...
The followshipping of both as peer support can also be helpful, but some 13th stepping gos on in both. ..

Another thing you can do is to call NA's main phone number and talk to their central office. AA has a Central Office in almost every city. It doesn't matter which one you talk to, the information will be the same.

Good luck on opening a meeting and Thank You for stepping up and doing so!

You might also consider starting a SMART recovery group instead. All of their materials are available online I believe.
