Wanted to let fellow board members know about Valley Recovery Center in Sacramento since they're one of the few treatment programs in Northern California that follows a suboxone protocol during the detox period. They'll also implement regular opiate medications to alleviate symptoms during the detox process. I know they also have an outpatient treatment program in Fresno for those that maybe can't afford residential treatment.

Thanks wmann5! Do they have a suboxone maintenance program? Many people come here looking for a longterm solution for their opiate addiction.

Well-said, Amy. I'm now med director of a methadone program-- which I took up in part because of my frustration with the cap. Most of the patients entering treatment have been through at least one detox at some point. Every person addicted to opioids has the fantasy of completing detox and returning to who they were before opioids... but sustained abstinence is rare after detox, even when the detox is accompanied by 30-90 days of treatment.

I've been very critical of rapid detox programs for the same reason. If rapid detox programs were required to refund the money of the people who relapsed within 6 months, they would all be out of business. Maybe they are useful in a few cases-- such as in a person maintained on buprenorphine for years, ready to stop the medication. But for those in active addiction, detox programs are RARELY helpful.
