hello. i am a mother of three little boys , a student midwife, a practicing doula and also a suboxone patient for pain and addiction. i recently had a baby boy...on january 7th, 2011! ivan is a healthy happy smiling wonder~boy! he was born at home and had no withdrawals at all! he's been smiling and laughing since he was 5 days old. he is a great nurser and is so very healthy that our family doctor asks me what my secret is for huge chubby happy healthy babies! if anyone has questions or fears about being preg. or having a baby on suboxone, please do not worry. your baby will be ok. the only thing you really have to be scared of is what the ob or midwife might do or think...unfortunately, most assume that sub. and methadone are the same thing and treat neonates the same way...i have had three homebirths, this last one i am so so glad i did not have him in a hospital...its hard to even begin to describe the many ways that babies who are born to moms on suboxone are mistreated! nursing is interrupted and bodong, not to mention causing undue stress to mothers and babies...oh dear.
