I'm new, I know for a fact i'm not pregnant. Wasn't sure where else to post this, I figured since it has to do with my menstrual cycle then this may be an OK place to post. Here's my story:

January 2011 I got a depo shot. I was due to get another around march/april but never went back. I also started using heroin in december. I stopped from march-june, I was taking 1 mg of suboxone a day. Still no period. Relapsed and continued using heroin from June 2011-Feb 2012, with a week here and there clean but nothing longer than that.

I started back on suboxone Saturday 2/11/2012. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this. I heard somewhere that the drugs stop your period but I am a little concerned. Will it come back? Does suboxone effect it also? I am going to call my doctor this week, but before I freak out I just wanted to see if this has happened to anyone else.

Thanks
xoxo

My doctor told me, ALL opiates can stop you from having a period, as well as a 'cycle'
maybe natures way of trying not to get pregnant while on opiates?
I know its not true for everyone.
I got pregnant when I was on methadone, but I was only taking methadone for about 4 months.

Im not a good example becuase even since being a teenager, I was never ever 'regular'

And, been on suboxone ten months, today.
no periods, at all.
and no, not pregnant. for sure.

So, I did ask my suboxone doctor, if other women experience this as well, he said not 'as much' with suboxone, but definitely with opiates in general.

Im not a doctor, or trying to give advice.

But I hope this helps ease your mind, at least a bit :D :D :D

It could be because of the depo shot, it can mess up your cycle. I was on the shot for bc and decided to switch back to the pills. I stopped the shot and waited for my period to return but it never did. My Dr told me it is a common issue and gave me some meds to induce a period and my cycle returned to normal.

Welcome to the forum and try not to worry! You gyn will get you back on track.

Thank you all! I am definitely more at ease. I am hoping now that I am just on suboxone it'll come back. Either way i'm going to talk about it with my obgyn/primary care in the future if it's still a concern anyways because I want to see if they can give me meds to induce a period also. I feel so unhealthy going a year without having one. i wanna have kids some day and it got me scared that i was like infertile or something.thanks for all your help!

I didn't have a period for a year and a half after getting off the depo shot. I was told I would have issues conceiving but after having my period induced I got pregnant the next month and now have 4 beautiful children. So don't worry, you'll get straightened out.
