I recently been diagnosed with cancer and it has spread to the lymph nodes in my groin. Neddless to say i need a modified radical vulvectomy with lymph node dissection ASAP! MY oncologist asked for my suboxone md number so i gave it to him. a few weeks later my oncologist told me that him and my sub dr agreed to let sub dr do my pain control. My suboxone dr told me prior to all of this that having my life should be worth suffering in pain for a while (2months or longer) and that all he will be giving me for pain is 4 mg of suboxone every 12 hrs. Can and will the other drs let him do that to me? Doesnt seem right. I wish to find a dr in this group/forum that can help me with my situation or info (a link) something that can help educate my oncologist on this medication. They already make me feel like im trash or a junkie when i have never been. Suboxone is the worst choice i have ever made. Its been pure hell getting the right medical treatment or being treated as a person instead of a drug seeker. I HAVE CANCER AND IM SCARED. THEY WONT HELP MEBWITH THE AWFUL PAIN IM IN NOW, how suboxone going to help me after surgery when it does nothing now to help my pain. Sorry for rambling im just scared my drs are going torture me and let me suffer in pain

I'm shocked at what you described. A person on buprenorphine products generally needs at least 15 mg of oxycodone every 4 hours to overcome the block from buprenorphine. Any docs who prescribe buprenorphine should know that-- and are responsible for managing the issues related to the med they are prescribing.

Send me a private message with your email address, and I'll send you the statement that i usually provide for surgeons operating on buprenorphine patients. One consideration that you need to make is whether you should stay on buprenorphine, or instead have your oncologist manage your pain. If willing, that doctor could simply transition you to oxycodone, and you would have no withdrawal issues from buprenorphine. Understand that ONE benefit of Suboxone for you is that it has held your tolerance relatively low; you could change to a low dose of Oxycontin-- 20-40 mg twice per day-- and start from there. That's about equal to the tolerance your Suboxone is causing. If the docs can't deal with it, just take it out of the picture.

I'm sorry about your illness too-- and I hope things work out OK.
