hi all....i made a bet with myself to get off all opites by the end of this year. Im a chronic pain /PM med failure and ive been riding on 6 mgs of sub for about 9months....before that the dr had me on 24mg a day. It zoned me out so bad...headaches so i read about less is more and got down to 6mgs. i havea shitload stockpiled because dr doesnt know. im thinking i want to be alive again but im scared to getoff. dr told me that i would need to stay on sub for a long time.

I mean....Why? i did tell him that i loved pills but i think want to go 'no meds' and he got mad.

im really confgused now because it does seem like less is working better.

HELLO :) :) :)

thats awesome news you are able to get by on just 6mg!!!! its crazy how much suboxone patients have to be thier own advocates, and do so much research, that alot of times they really do know more than the doctor!! ha ha ha
sounds terrible, but its true in so many cases.

So, maybe he thought your pain would only be controlled on closer to 24mg/day since you were a pain management patient?? that could be it.
Many doctors have thier own ideas on what dose is 'best' for addiction and pain. But I think if you find a dose that works for you, thats great.

AND, I must say, congrats on 9 months!!!! thats no small feat!!!!!

geez...I just realized that I didn't really do a intro. I'm over 50 and have had chronic pain for 20 years....fell off horses...basically killed myself carrying rib pans at a steakhouse for years. anyways...got on methadone for 10 years then got off that using pills...that was crazy. In 2009 I got on subs.

Thx Amber...love that avatar! im just tired of all the meds...i worry that as more info comes out about subs and howthe dr seems to PUSH it and thinks i cant live without it...i am confiused.

My pain seems to be better...but ive really cut down on my activity and i think that has helped alot.....i cant act likew i used to...getting older has really slowed me down....the over 50 shit.

Hi ann and welcome.

It's great that you found the lowest, best dose that works for you. Now that you've found that, you can sit with that dose for awhile. And even if you are ready to taper off, you could start doing that now, but be prepared to do a long, slow taper.

I'm guessing your doctor just wants the best for you. He gets nothing out of keeping you on maintenance. In fact he'd get more money if he took on a new patient to induce. Try not to assume the worst. You still have time to figure out how long you want to be on it.

As for those extra subs, just hang on to those for your taper. You may need them.

Good luck whatever you decide. If you want to start your taper, we'll be here to help you. If you choose to stay on for now and decide to start some counseling or addiction therapy or step work in anticipation of getting ready to go off sub, we'll support you in that as well.

Be well!
