Hi everyone. I am looking for some advice.
I went for help today to a suboxone doctor.
I have been on anywhere from 50-100mgs of percocet or vicodin daily for about a year.
This doctor was not what I expected. Really seemed to just want the money and didn't seem to put much care into his patients.
He prescribed me 8mg suboxone once a day and just told me to start it about 24 hours after my last pill.
The more I have been researching the more I see the induction process being smaller amounts and not just straight 8mgs at one time.
Also is 8mg too much for someone that was on the dosage I was on?
I really want to do this the right way and don't feel like this doc gave me the time of day.
Thanks for any advice.

I'm not a doctor, but I can tell you what I went through. I was taking up to (I think) 125mg of oxy a day prior to getting on sub. Just before I went on sub I had taken a small amount of codeine and therefore my doctor started me on 4mg, then up to 8mg the next day, then up to 10mg the day after that and I could have gone up to 12mg if I wanted - but 10 was too much.
So I don't know what vicodin is as I don't think we have that here in Australia (I know the House guy takes it on that show House - that's the only place I have ever heard it spoken of before - yes television bringing educational viewing to the uneducated 24/7 LOL!!!!) - and also everyone is different I suppose.
Also you may feel high for the first like week, that's normal I learnt too - some people for normal straight away, some people feel a bit high and disorientated, just keep reading the forum posts and you will get lots of answers.
Good luck and let us know how you get on - if you have started taking it, let us know how you feel, what you going through, etc. (if you want to obviously).

Hi, and welcome! My story is similar to yours--the only difference is that I had a fairly small norco habit, about 30 - 40mg daily. My doc prescribed me 16mg my 1st day, which is a TRUCK LOAD compared to my habit. I heard someone describe it as "killing a fly with a shotgun". I took one 8mg strip in the morning, and it was waaayyy too much! You could barely see my pupils because they were so pinned, I couldn't sleep and had all these weird jerks and twitches. I am not a doc, but I would suggest starting at 2 mg., then working your way up until you feel relief. Just remember, you can always ADD more, but you can't take any away once it's dissolved. I hear this story over and over of doctors way over-prescribing this stuff to people. The first day or two might be a little uncomfortable as you figure out what dose is right for you, but in my opinion, listen to your body, not your doctor, when it comes to starting and stabilizing on subs.
I have been on subs now for about 7 months after a very short relapse with norcos/percs/vics, and looking back, because I had such a small habit for a very short period of time, I would've been better off just getting some xanax and clonodine to last me 4-5 days and just detoxed and been done with it, instead of picking up a whole new habit. However, the subs have helped me get my life back in order, and am currently in the process of tapering. I was steady at about 1mg for several months, and am down to basically alternating .5mg & .375mg. Some days are better than others, but it is definitely much more bearable than full opioid detoxes.
I wish you the best! Keep us posted on how it goes and what your doses are! There are a few more of us who are currently tapering, or have recently jumped, so there is a lot of great support here! I will get back to you after your next post! Best of luck!
