hi, ill be 36 weeks pregnant this coming wed. here's some of my story, i found out i was pregnant in dec. i had relapsed right before i found out i was pregnant, on heroin... i went and got prenatal care right away and was honest with my dr about my drug use... i asked him what my options were about suboxone and methadone, he really didnt know anything, and kinda just would rush me out every visit even tho all my drug tests always came back positive, and i would always ask how i could get on subutex after i had looked online... he basically told me i had no choice but to get on methadone, which scared me, because that was the last thing i wanted.. he also advised me to quit cold turkey which i had read was not what i should do! well finally after every month him not giving me answers, in my 5th month i came in crying to him, assuming i would just get on the methadone because i couldnt go on using drugs while pregnant any longer... or using at all for that matter... he transfered me to a place called hutzel hospital. my appt was on the first day of my 3rd trimester, i was so lucky to go there, my dr is an addiction specialist, and an ob! when i went he erased all my fears about methadone and told me that eventually subutex would be the gold standard for pregnancy and etc. so i was put on subutex. he prescribes me 8mg/day but ive only been taking 2mg mg/day for the last month. every drug test since my first appt with him has come back clean. oh and his ob office is actually at the hospital, so i assume they are well trained to deal with sub and methadone baby's so im hoping im not judged much since pretty much all my drs patients are on either subs or methadone... but my question is since i did use in my th month my dr told me that there is a chance my baby might test positive still, but also a chance that he wont because i have not been using anything for 3 months... but if it does, does anyone know if cps would be brought into it even tho i am on subutex now, and have passed every drug test since i began on the subutex? i worry about everything, i havnt really worried much about cps until now, i was so busy worrying everyday if something was wrong with my baby, but i just was reassured on a u/s that he's fine, so im prolly just finding something else to worry about lol... my dr told me that i should have nothing to worry about. but i would still like to hear if anyone has a similar story, where they were using while pregnant then got on subutex, i mainly only can find stories about people that were on subutex the whole time while pregnant, thankyou! oh and btw so glad i found this site!!! def helps calm a worry worry's mind :)

HELLO :) :) :)
Im sooooooo glad you found an understanding doctor, sounds like in the nic of time!!! sweet!!

So, Im not all that experienced with subutex and pregnancy,,,, but what I can tell you is,,,,,
I used when I was pregnant. about the same amount as you,,, meaning it was almost my third tri before I was on a 'plan'
I didnt even KNOW I was preg until I was about 4 months along. (wasnt soposed to be able to get preg)
ANYways, I too, was honest with my doctor,
and as a pain patient, My OBGYN, just put me on percocets, the rest of my pregnancy, cuz it was a whole lot better than everything else I was taking. I did quit three days before my c-section, and my son was premature, and underwieght, but he was HEALTHY when he left the hospital. He didnt detox/wd as far as I could tell (or anyone else)

I do know, one of my friends here, was pretty much attacked by CPS, and her baby didnt even fail a drug test, but she was so bombarded by the lady from CPS, and all the after pregnancy emotions that bad things ended up happening. She found out later they had NO right to take the baby, but the lady sort of "tricked" her into thinking they DID, and she had NO choice in the matter.

What I would do if I were you is...........
Lots of homework about the state your in, and what your rights are first and foremost. things like what gives them the right to 'open a case' agianst you and things like that.
knowledge is power...............
and in the "pregnancy and suboxone" section, you'll find lots of stories about healthy babies, and a few that did have w/d issues, but those are usually from much higher doses.
PLEASE, PLEASE dont let them bully you.............some times people in these positions take the small amt of power they have and runover people.
It sounds like your in the right place though, so maybe you'll have an ali or two!!! (hope so)

Also, Id document for yourself how many GOOD drug tests you've had and been with your current doctor. that will help alot. they arent soposed to be able to punish you for the PAST. thats what it is you know?
You are doing the right thing, the brave thing, and dont feel guilty about that.
I wish I would have gotten help sooner, I wouldnt have missed so much of my son in his first two yrs of life. But Im okay with that now, Ive made my peace with my past

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. I cant wait to hear you and your lil bundle are home safe and sound.

Please do read up on your rights,
and dont forget the section about pregnancy.
and read this, it'll make you feel a lil better...........

Iam new on here and sooo glad I came across you post and can help you!!! I have been on suboxone/subutex for over 3yrs now and let me tell you, your moving in the right direction and don't need to worry about a thing. When I read your post I couldn't believe how similar our storys are. Sorry if things are spelled wrong the buttons are sticking on my phone LOL
I got on subutex a little over 3yrs ago when I was 7months prego with my daughter. I had been addicted to pain pills for a couple years and then had started doing herion because it was cheaper, right before I got pregnant. When I found out I was prego I tried to quit more times then I can count but I was working full time and already had a 6yr old son, so I couldn't make it through withdrawl with everything going on in my life. One day I was fed up and scared of doing this and knew I needed help. I found a suboxone doc and made an appt, went in and was honest about everything. He was great and didn't judge me at all about being prego and in this situation. Right away he put me on subutex, not suboxone because the subutex is safer while prego. He said the worst thing todo while prego is to try to quit opiots and go through withdrawl because the baby goes through it too inside you and they couldn't help it if something went wrong. So everything was good up until about a week before the baby was due. My doc informed me there might be a chance when my baby was born that it would have to stay at the hospitol for a couple weeks until it withdrew from the subutex. I was devistated!!! I could not even think about not being with my baby and having to leave it after giving birth. He said sometimes they can go home right away if they don't show signs of bad withdrawl. So I prayed that would be the case. I gave birth to my daughter and she was born perfactly healthy no complications at all and showed no signs of withdrawl, so baby and I got to go home after 2days like any other normal baby would. My doc told me for the next couple weeks what signs to look for and what to exspect that was ok. Like extra fussiness, sneezing, and not feeding as much as normal. I was sooo happy that I didn't have to leave my baby there for a couple weeks. I was only taking a half sub a day when I gave birth, so I'm sure that helped a lot. When I was getting discharged from the hospitol a CPS worker came in to talk to me, wich my doc told me before hand would happen. I was worried and scared.a She came in and was gone in less then 2mins!!! All she did was looked at the baby and told me congrats and how ibeautiful she was, and also asked me how I was feeling and doing from giving birth. Sheand a also asked if there was anything that I needed help with, like diapers, formula, or any other resources . She was really sweet, and didn't ask a single question about my addiction. I was all worked up about nothing. I took my daughter home and as I was told the first two weeks home she did show some slight withdrawl simtoms, she was fussy and cried more then normal, sneezed a lot and also would kinda get like a quick shake once in a while like someone scared her. After two weeks everything was gone. Tshe is now 3yrs old and perfact. She is acualy above average!!! She can talk like nobodys bissness and uses huge words that an adult would use. Everyone gets a kick outa how smart she is, and love listening to her talk. Keep your head up, everything will work out. Your going to be fine, and have nothing to worrry about with your baby and you passing a drug test. As long as you don't use anymore and keep taking your subutex. I wish you the best of luck and if you have any questions please let me know.

thankyou so much for ur reply!!!! im so happy to have heard a story thats soooooo similar to mine!!!! like almost to the t! i was just talking with my mom today about hoping that my baby if he does have withdrawls that they are mild enough that they will not medicate him or have to keep him the hospital.. i have read that sometimes nurses will blame anything that even normal newborns do on withdrawl.. which i think even if the baby is withdrawling very slight its way more benificial for the baby to be at home with mommy then in the hospital on morphine! since our stories are so much alike i really hope they stay alike lol and i have the same birth experience as you!! i asked my dr yesterday about cps and stuff, and he basically said that a hospital case worker would come talk to me but i wouldnt have nothing to worry about cuz she will have my file which shows my progress and what not, but if i was dirty or something like that, then they could get involved, i dont know why i worry so much because i guess most obs, send pregnant patiients on methadone or subutex to my dr, and the ob office is in the same hospital that i will be delivering, so i assume they know alot about the situation... did u find a pediatrician before u gave birth? im trying to look online to maybe find one that has dealt with babys born to sub moms, but its super hard! childrens hospital is also connected to the hospital im giving birth at, so i assume i could find one there that knows alot about the situation.. i have to say again how good it feels to find someone so similar to my situation! most of the stories i can find are people that were already on sub then got prenant, nothing really where they were using then got on subs while pregnant, so u have no idea how glad i am to read ur post!!!

That's a great story to hear nicollrf. Welcome to the forum, and thanks for posting your story, which, I'm sure, will give many other expectant mothers who are in a similar situation, lot of needed hope and encouragement. That's awesome that your little girl did so well after she was born!
