Hello Everyone,
As some here know I have relocated after Many years (All my Life @ 51 years) in Boston I have moved to South Florida! I have been on Suboxone and Clean since Feb. 2009. I have also been on the same dose almost since day one. 16 Mg's. / day. Before I left Boston I spoke with my then Current Subox Doc about my move and my addiction care. We looked through the Internet together and called a couple of Doc's in the Ft. Lauderdale area. We settled on one and they told me to just call a day or two before I needed to come in!
Well as you can imagine I was VERY Nervous when the day came that after 2 1/2 years of being Very comfortable with my Doc and my Care Everything was about to change!! I met the Doctor and to my Surprise He was VERY receptive to my needs and even offered to write my other Rx's that I get monthly. The only draw back was My dose! The first question from him was Why you still on 16 Mg's. / Day??? His " Normal " treatment may start @ 16Mg's at first BUT by 3 months in he wants you down to a half or one at most! So now I'm thinking Oh Shit here we go. I'm screwed... Not really, he told me He would like me to try to start reducing my dose on my own and see how it goes. In his words " I do not believe in large doses for life". However he said if I had to be on a half to one suboxone a day he could live with that! The more I think about it I think I needed a little push or I would have stayed on my dose for ever! Don't get me wrong I realize that some people out here NEED a Large dose for Pain Relief and other reasons and I am fine with that. I just think for ME it is probably time to bring it down a little. Now that being said let's see how it goes.... This is one of the reason's I came back to the Forum. I wanted to share this part of my Recovery with the Forum..... AND of Course. I missed Hat's Wisdom!! I mean that it's nice to be back and I am Very Happy to see my Friend Hatmaker here and doing well! She has given much to this site.....
Well I hope to be around More and I hope to get to talk with everyone out there!!!
Take Care for Now!!
God Bless
TW

Twin - I'm fucking dancing a jig here that you're back! It's so good to "see" you again. So it sounds like your new sub doc isn't too bad. And if you're comfortable with bumping your dose down a little, then good for you. I'm sure you can get down to 12 or even 10 without too many problems. Just pay close attention to those cravings as you go down.

Again, I'm thrilled to have you back. Enjoy sunny Florida...I know I wish I was! Welcome back, you've been terribly missed.

I don't believe we've met but I've been here about a year or so and we must have just missed each other.

Almost the same thing happened to me. My new doctor was surprised that I was still on a maintenance dose of 4mgs after 15 months being on Sub. He normally gets his patients off by six months, so I knew I had to keep tapering and wasn't going to be allowed to stay at my comfortable 4mgs. And like you, it was a good kick in the rear. I have no problem getting off of Sub and had planned on it anyway. Just didn't really think about it until he made me. The only reason I tapered so low was due to feeling so sleepy on higher doses. Heck, I still feel sleepy on 1.5 to 2mgs.

So it did turn out okay for you and your doctor sounds like he knows what he's doing. Isn't it hard to leave the comfort of your first Sub doc?

Nice to have you back.

I've been on Sub for 3 wks and am at 16mg also.I feel really good at that dose and sleep like a baby. The only exception is joint pain in my hands and swelling.I may reduce a bit to see if it helps.I see my Dr Tue.My Q is...is 16 mg considered a "large" dose??

Hi twinply I just moved to fort lauderdale from new york where I had the best doc for the past 2 years on sub. I have a small stockpile of meds but will need to find a doc soon. Would you recommend your new doc here? If so would you mind giving me their info? Please if you could message me assuming you see this post of course. Also if anyone needs I have a great doc to recommend in NYC, did a lot for my recovery and I will miss him dearly.. Thanks so much.
