Hello Everyone.
My Name Is Taj I'm and addict.
I had 7 years clean and sober before I relapsed and used heroin for about 12 days. Unable to detox on my own I went to a doctor who put me on Suboxon 8mg 2x per day.
That was nearly a year ago.
During that time I've continued going to 12 step meetings ( I'm not preaching to anyone that's just what has helped me and what I enjoy :) )
I've also tried at various times to ween myself off and cut down. It hasn't worked so far.
Today I saw my Doc and made an appointment to see a substance abuse counselor.
Honestly, I don't like being on Suboxone and wish I had just "paid the piper" and kicked a year ago. Since i didn't, though I've gotten some acceptance that I have to take this "medicine" for now.
I'm really happy that I found this forum. I've already learned a lot just by lurking.
Looking forward to posting and chatting!
Thanks!

Welcome Taj!

Im glad you found this forum. Its a great place to learn about sub and to get support when you need it. It is nice that you have also found support in 12 step meetings. I say do whatever is working for you!

How come you don't like being on sub? Are you having side effects? Just wondering.....I have been on 8mg daily for about a year and I feel like sub has saved my life.

Welcome again! Keep reading and posting!

I have never been on a maintenance program before and I think a lot of it is that I'm feeling guilt and shame like I'm some how not sober. I've enlisted a substance abuse counselor who's given me an assignment to help address those feelings.

As far as side effects go I have one major complaint: Headaches. About 2 or three times a month I'm good for a nagging, awful, won't go away headache. I try to get enough exercise and drink plenty of water but once one of these hits it's hours before I can go anything except lay in a dark room with an ice bag on my head.

Thanks for replying to my post.

Hello and welcome. I just wanted to ask if when taking your sub, are you swallowing or spitting? If you are swallowing it could be causing or contributing to your headaches. Try spitting and it might help. Just a thought. Again, welcome to the forum. I'm glad you found us. Hope you keep posting.

I found a post yesterday that suggested I spit.
Tried it for the first time last night and no headache. It makes total sense that I was swallowing a bit of the Nalaxone and that was making me sick. Going to try it again today.
Thanks for the reply.
