Haven't been on this forum for a while, but i wanted to check in to say that today i'm celebrating 18 months since my last Suboxone dose. Being free from the obsession to use any and all drugs has been awesome.

All told, i was an addict for close to 15 years, first heroin and cocaine (IV use), then methadone and suboxone. I'm still an addict, but a recovered one, meaning that while i do think of drugs now and then, there is absolutely no craving or obsession to use. Freedom.

Life definitely continues to throw me some tricky challenges, and i have some pretty crappy days now and then. But i'm learning more and more to trust that i can meet these challenges successfully, and stay serene no matter what the outcome is. On the whole, i find myself getting happier and more content over time. I have a sense that this will continue, but i spend very little time worrying about the future (or the past); more and more i just enjoy being in the moment.

If you're hoping to get off Subs (or Methadone), trust me: if i can do it, you can do it too.

Congratulations on 18 months, JI! As I said in my other post to you, it's fantastic and encouraging to hear that you have been through 18 months off sub without a slip! Good for you for utilizing other recovery tools to stay in recovery. And thanks for checking in! You are always welcome!

Johnny,

Thanks for stopping in and giving us an update on your recovery. That is awesome! Can you tell us if you used any recovery programs like NA, AA, etc?

Me, as an addict, needs support from others who share my addictive behaviors in able to stay clean for the long run. If you were able to do it on your own then my hat is off to you. Whatever works is what's right for you.

Welcome back and don't be such a stranger,

rule

I logged in today and yours was the first post I read! Many, many congrats to you! You provide inspiration to all of us who are trying to taper. I remember you from last year. Thank you for stopping in and giving an update. It is very important for those of us in a taper to hear of success :)
