I read about LAAM once a while back.. What ever happened to it? I figured that would be more ideal than methadone because it has an even longer half life.

I guess they found it could cause some heart problems in some people. I also think I read that many places wouldn't allow take home doses even before the problems were discovered so it was pretty inconvenient for people to have to go to the clinic and dose every couple days regardless of how long they'd been on it and had clean drug screens. Like I said though I'm not a 100%

I heard that it wasn't actually taken off the market, but that the company that made it didn't make enough money off it because there were so few patients--but there were heart warnings associated with it....I will have to research it cause I really don't know for sure!~

Can anyone point me in the direction of LAAM sites or some links pertaining to LAAM (reliable information please)? When I do searches for it I find info that I do not feel comfortable trusting sometimes. Maybe someone, anyone can enlighten me.... I am just curious. I am happy with my suboxone treatment and would simply like to learn something about LAAM after hearing about it several times....Thanks in advance!

Hey there

I don't think they use LAAM in the united states anymore because of its long half life.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Levacetylmethadol is a good place to start.

I think its not around because it says:

In 2003, Roxane Laboratories, Inc. discontinued Orlaam in the US
