:!: Hi everyone. I like to use this website as a support system for myself, since the community has been so kind to me. Today, I am writing this post with some pretty horrid personal news.
I have been clean for 4 weeks now. Last week, I had my bloodwork done to see what damaged I've done to my body from the 2 years I had been shooting up opiates.
So two days ago the news came.. I have Hepatitis C, or HCV. Currently, I am being referred to a specialist. I have an appointment set for the end of the month.
I'm not too keen on telling my suboxone doctor, simply because I don't want it to get in the way of my getting my script. I'm not sure it will, but that's not a risk I see necessary.

The main reason I am posting this is to let you all know, especially those who have shot up, to get tested. Usually, we don't take the time to do such things until we get on suboxone and start thinking clearly again, like myself. From what I have read, and have been told, the disease is mild in most cases. I have no symptoms. I probably won't have any symptoms for many years to come. Any time someone gets clean, they need to get tested. When I was doing pills, I didn't realize how easy it would be to catch Hep C. It is a very common thing that happens when you reuse needles.
We need to raise awareness. Awareness is one of the only tools we have to prevent the spread of this infectious disease.

Stay safe, guys. If you have any advice, or a similar story, please post it below!

Hi VB,

I'm very sorry about your diagnosis! It must be devastating and overwhelming at the same time. I hope your doctors are treating you kindly and giving you the information you need to make the best decisions for you.

Amy

Thank you for your concern. I am doing just fine though, today I am one month clean! :D

No symptoms are going to appear for 10-40 years. So, I have an appointment with a specialist on the 29th to see if we should start treatment yet, & to also find out if I have chronic HCV. If its not chronic then that means my body has fought it off & I don't need treatment, & I will never develop symptoms.
