Hey All-

Ameritox is charging me $400 per urinalysis test and Blue Cross/Shield is not covering. They cover the Bupe for drug dependence but not urinalysis. And the "prior authorization" for covering the script requires urinalysis. Seems very expensive to me. How often do doctors legally have to test? Anyone know of an alternative testing company that I can recommend to my physician?

My Blue Cross/Shield now uses American Behavioral Health to administer psych treatment. Neither is paying for testing. My employer recently sent us information that because we have state self-paid insurance, we are immune from federal parity laws. ABH does not cover testing for "psychological, nervous and substance abuse" diagnosis. I wonder if this means that they do not cover lithium testing for bipolar. I am bipolar and take Seroquel- they do pay for blood sugar/cholesterol testing related to that drug. Does anyone have a doctor who also adds that chronic pain is an issue in order to get around that- I do have some pain but it would be a stretch and a risk I don't think he would not want to take.

Ameritox is sending me a new "self pay" discount bill but don't know how much that will be.
