Hey Everyone:

As many of you know, I attend a weekly substance abuse group therapy meeting. It's private, not AA or NA, and it's run by and moderated by my personal therapist. It's a very good group, quite intimate, and we talk about a lot of stuff that probably would not really work to well at an open AA or NA meeting.....

Anyway, one of the attendees at this meeting is someone who has, for years, struggled with opiate addiction. He's quite a bit younger than I am, so he doesn't really have quite a long history of drug abuse that I have, but he's had the same type of struggle, one where he would stay clean for a while, then relapse, over and over and over again and again and again.....the most recent relapse being a few weeks ago.

Last week, in our group meeting, he asked me what it was like to be on suboxone. I gave him some insight and suggested that he might benefit by reading some of the threads right here on this message board.

He told us last night that he came here to this web site, got involved in a chat session (I'm guessing it was one of the meetings) and he got a lot out of it, then the "Find A Certified Physician" link at the top of the page and not too long after that, he found a doctor to prescribe him suboxone.

He showed up at last night's group therapy meeting and told us all about it.

I thought it was a cool story that many of you - particularly Dr. Junig - would like to hear. THIS WEB SITE had a profound impact on someone's life.

How cool is that?

Yes, he said he feels 100% better and he's glad he did it. 8)

junkie, that is so great to hear.

Sometimes when I'm feeling down I'll look at my taper thread and realize that it has like 16,000+ views and I realize that I've been able to reach out and help people through this forum. But to hear an actual example of someone getting help is even better.

It's terrific to hear how much this site helped your friend out. And kudos to you for referring him. I hope the both of you continue to do well.

He's doing great - I see him every week at our group therapy meeting - and I'm doing great too. Home for three days from work to record electric guitars for my band's album!
