Hi, Im Anita and I've been off the boards so I don't even know if any of the old people are still here. Ladder tipper, Romeo, gosh... I know there were so many others that I'm just blanking on. Anyway, I'm back on the site after a few years sabbatical because nothing was changing in my life and things were rather stable. If any of you are still here you might remember I was on bupe at a super low dose for chronic pain and I wanted to get off of it, but then my pain was way to bad so I decided for a while anyway to just enjoy the time being in good pain control on low dose bupe. 2-3 mg a day. Well, then my husband got a bad cancer and everything changed and I just had to be in the best shape possible to take care of him so there was no way I could go off my meds. Well, now four years later I'm thrilled to say he is free of cancer and feeling well and we are very hopeful. I have been in much better condition too and my pain isn't as bad as it once was so I would really like to finally get off the buprenorphine and find something else to help me with my pain. I found this guy named Matt Finch who runs opiate addiction support.com and he is a coach who is also a certified recovery specialist and he has some interesting ideas about tapering. Has anybody here had success with using Gabapentin ( aka Neurontin ) to help with w/d symptoms.
Thanks again,
Anita. sorry for any typos it;s late

Nice to hear from you, Anita! There are a few old timers around here still. Rule62, Teejay, and I are still here. I only starting commenting in 2/11 so I was around back then too. I started moderating in December 2011 and Rule and I have 3 more great mods who are crucial to our everyday running.

I have definitely seen people talk here about using gabapentin to their advantage if they have pain problems and are trying to get off sub. You might want to do a search of neurontin and gabapentin and see what threads pop up.

Congratulations for being at a point where you are ready to go off buprenorphine. The members here are great at supporting folks who are tapering and stepping off. It sounds like you are at a very stable time in your life, and that's when people are most successful at getting off without relapsing.

It's great to have you back!

Amy

P.S. I got my dates mixed up. I started lurking during 10/11 and started posting at 2/12 and moderating at 12/12.
