Hi I am new to this and have already found these posts extrememly helpful. I am 39 weeks pregnant and have been on subutex the entire time. I was taking percocet and switched to the subutex a couple weeks after finding out i was pregnant. I was not very educated about the medication and was told by the prescribing doc that day he has had many women deliver healthy babies with no withdrawal on subutex. It wasnt until about three months later when a friend of a friend delivered her baby on 16 mg and the baby was in the special care nursery for threee weeks that i began panicking, My family has no idea of my addiction nor does my husbands family and both would be mortified and extremely disappointed if something happened to the baby after birth from NAS. I started on 4-6 mg then in second trimester under my doctors suggestion began taking slightly more. After researching realized it was completely ok to taper. I began taking less and less and now have been down to about 2-3 mg for the past six weeks. I am having c section on Wednesday and am sooo nervous. I am praying for a healthy baby with no withdrawal. I will feel so terrible if she does experience it and the guilt will be overwhelming. My questions are does anyone know in the state i live in which is New Jersey if CPS will have to come to hospital. I have used nothing besides subutex and all my doctors are aware. I have gone to every appt and seen a high risk specialist. Also i an having a c section and the anesthesiologist told my doc i should take my dose up till the morning of surgery. Does that seem right. Would it be better for me to stop today? Also what is the persentage of my baby experiencing NAS and is there anything else i can do at this point to help prevent it? thanks

First, congratulations on your pregnancy. I empathize with your concerns about NAS, but as far as I know there is nothing you can do at this point to prevent it, IF it's going to happen. With regard to when to stop the sub, it's my understanding that it's generally accepted to stop sub 2-3 days before any surgery when the patient will need pain meds.

Keep in mind that you're on a much lower dosage than your friend, so hopefully that will make a difference and your baby won't have any symptoms. I'm sorry that I can't give you any info on your state regarding whether CPS is called or not, but I believe that if you test clean and the only thing you're taking is what's prescribed to you, then you should be fine. But that might vary from hospital to hospital.

I wish you the very best. Keep positive thoughts and let us know how it goes.
