I am currently addicted to pain killers. Usually taking what ever I can find. Been addicted now for six years and want help. I live in Maine and have found the numbers for sub docs in the state online but am scared to call. What do I say to them? Are the websites to find sub docs a good way to find a doctor? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am really scared. Thanks.

I'm so sorry that I missed your post! I didn't see it until now. Welcome to the forum! I hope we can help answer some of your questions.

There are good websites to help you find a sub doctor. What ones have you tried?

When I called my sub doctor for the first time I just said, "I'm an opiate addict and I've been advised that getting on suboxone may be a good idea for me." I asked if they took my insurance, which they did. I asked what I needed to do next and the answer was to make an appointment to talk with the doctor about becoming a suboxone patient. Most initial appointments cost more than the regular weekly/monthly appointments after that. I think because it's a longer appointment. My doctor did not start the suboxone induction during that first appointment. We set up a different appointment for that.

Does that answer some of your questions? Please let us know how you're doing!

Amy

When I called I just said I'm interested in the Suboxone program and they knew what questions to ask from there. I never had the doctor's staff give me a hard time. So just go ahead and make the call, you will be relieved when you get it over with. Good luck.

I was wondering if you got the help u need? I just joined this forum and saw your post. The day you posted, i had just enjoyed the best Christmas ever. December 14, 2012, i called the first Dr that came up in the search on my phone. The actual Dr answered and i told him how addicted i was to pain pills (20 a day) and said i had been trying to quit every week for past 6 weeks but couldn't handle withdrawals. I then said i have no $ for any more pills or rehab and that this was last time i would quit. If i can't make it thru, i have to kill myself. I'm 33 years old and NEVER been close to suicidal! I asked him of Drs or the ER could give me anything to help thru it. He happened to be an addictionologist!! He had me come c him immediately, gave me my first dose of sub and my life has been like brand new ever since!! So i really wanted to know what happened to u and hope u got help. I love to see how many lives have been saved like mine
