I have been on methadone for 7 years. I have recently left the clinic
So that I can begin my transition to subs. I wanted to switch earlier but I never had the willpower to taper down. I would put it off until "next week",every week. I was scared to be sick and the length of time to taper was intimidating to me. I wanted it done quick. If I had started the taper when I first wanted to I would have been off years ago. So I just stopped cold turkey. I was on 120mg for the past 3 years. I was skipping doses prior to
Leaving also. I was just wondering how much longer I should wait before I should even try to switch to subs. These are the days and doses for the past 2
Weeks. 120-120-120-0-0-120-0-120-0-0-0-0-60-0-0-0-0-0. I have been taking things like Vicodin for the withdrawls from the methadone until I can start the subs. Anyone
Have any experience of getting on subs in a similar situation?

So you've had 5 days with no methadone, and a last dose of 60mg's with a 4 day break before that. At this stage I'd say that you're likely ready to induce on Suboxone, but if anything it'd be the Vicodin that'd cause you any precipitated withdrawal. How are you taking it?

Yes. Well it was on the 5th day that I took the 60mg. It's has been pretty much 5 days since then. The past 5 days I have take other things orally. Day 1-4 hydro 7.5 day 2-
60mg morphine /day 3-oxy 10mg and perk 10/ beginning of day 4 til now 8 perk 10s. I was
Just taking anything that I could to take the edge off so that I could function. I'm just sooo scared about the precipitated withdrawls. How long should I go before I start the subs? I'm buying them off the street to begin with to see how it goes before I go to the dr and spend the $450 on the first visit! I want to make sure that subs will work for me.

You're going to have to go a period of time without taking anything before you can induce. You want to make sure almost everything is off your receptors before taking the sub. I had been taking 120mg of oxy for a year and a half. Went down to 60mg a day for three days. My sub doctor told me to wait 24 hours after my last dose to start the sub. By that point I was in moderate to severe withdrawal. 16 hours might be enough, but the longer you wait, the better the sub will work. I felt almost completely better about 15-20 minutes after taking the sub. I know it's hard, and it sucks having to put yourself into at least moderate withdrawal, but it really is worth it. Better safe than sorry, as far as precipitated withdrawals go. Anyway, that's just my opinion, and how I did it, and it worked really well for me. Good luck :-)

That's what I planned on doing. I am going to take something for the last time this evening and then start the subs for the first time probably tomorrow night, depending on if I'm bad enough. I think I will be because as soon as I was up I am in moderate withdrawls. Legs hurt, skin crawls, nauseous, runny nose, watery eyes and yawning, etc. I am just so scared of the precipitated withdrawls I guess. I figured since I had been on the methadone for 7 years it would take longer than this to get out of my system.
