I had my first dose of bupenorphine today while at the doctors office. I'm using for pain only so he started me off with a quarter of a 2mg pill. I wasn't expecting such an effect from a fleck size pill.

10 am - took pill
11 am - minor minor feeling of something happening
Noon - very light buzz
1 pm - light headed, woozy, all the memories of being on oxy and that uncomfortable feeling come back
3 pm - nauseous
4 pm - spoke with doctor "it's been a long time (3.5 years) since you've taken anything, it may take a few days to level out."
4:05 - took a promethazine
4:13 - now, eating toast, a minor bit itchy.

As my wife says, think of these as side effects, not adverse effects. I was really hoping to take to it without issue. I hate nausea!

Thanks for listening to me whine.

Hey Itsjustme,

Well if it's any consolation I encountered the very same side effects from 1/2mg dose when I first started as well.

Not sure if this is common with people starting it with no opiates in their system or what.

It's very frustrating however and I can't stand nausea so it's definitely an adverse effect in my book.

I'm taking a few days off until I feel right again and then give it another go. Please keep us informed how it goes with you too!

Thanks for checking in. After that killer headache I decided that bup wasn't for me; at least at this point. A few days ago I got a script for generic Norco and after three years of no opiates I started with 1/2 a pill. My doc said as long as I stick to no more than 20 5mg pills a month she's ok with that. Having been down this road before, I am much more cautious and will watch for dependence to form and deal with it before it gets out of hand.

I just have to do something about this pain.
