Hello all,

As stated in the subject I have my very first, ever, counseling appointment tomorrow at 10:30. I have no idea what is going to be discussed, what is expected of me, or what I should expect from her. Is there any advice anyone would give me being a first time counseling patient? Anything I should make sure and talk about or say to her about being on suboxone? I did not get to ask her if she was supportive of the suboxone treatment, but I did find out that she is, according to her, a "Certified Addiction Specialist", whatever that is.

I see that your appt has already come and gone. How did it go? Did you "click" with her or is it too soon to tell? Every therapist is different. I've been in therapy for the better part of my adult life (and part of my teen years) and I feel the most important aspect of it is the relationship between the two parties. It has to "click"...without that part, it's too hard to get things done. I hope you've found a good one. Let us know how it's going.

Yes Hat, I think that her and I did "click". I really like her, and she has alot of patients that are on suboxone. She really encouraged me to start attending some kind of aa/na group. I know that is a touchy subject around here but I think I might give it a shot. I figured I better not knock it until I try it, it might benefit me. She also gave me some good advice, asked me to start keeping a journal. We dove in a little bit to my relationship with my mom, she said it was a classic co-dependent relationship. I guess we will get into that more this week because we were almost out of time when I brought that up. Thanks for the reply. My next appointment is wednesday.

hey I wanted to ask you about your counseling session. I have to go 2x a month as part of my program. I like her because it doesn't have to be a half hour of sub/drug talk . she also suggested a journal, and funny enough up until my dad died i always kept one..journals are the best medicine for the mind IMO . She said i'm welcome to bring it in and go over whatever we like once we get past the mandated sub questions, I should have seen a counselor years ago when my dad commited suicide and then with my aweful car wreck, so i am taking advantage of seeing her. She is easy to talk to and so far so good. I hope you get the most out of yours!
