Good morning all. I am wondering if anyone else has had this experience. I am on Suboxone for a heavy duty 33 year opiate addiction and chronic pain from my spine being severely curved, broken and fused in 2 places. It was prescription pain meds beginning some 33 yrs ago for this spine injury that began and continued my addiction. Anyway, when I started Sub in hospital a little over a month ago, they had me on 12 mg 3x day. When I left, they upped it (I didn't even ask them to) to 16mg. Then, second week it was back to 12mg so I asked why it changed and third week they put it back to 16mg and said take 4x daily to help pain.

Oops....hit 'submit' before I finished. So now I just noticed the script they wrote ystrdy is for 12mg again. I know I am not going to be sick at all but should I just try it and see if say, 4mg 3x day works or if I need it 4x day, ask them to up it again. I think the reason it has fluctuated is because I have spent last 3 weeks in a program that was more intensive (6hrs per day, Monday thru Friday) and just "graduated" from that to the once per week clinic and there are different docs, though closely connected, just different part of hosp building. Has anyone noticed much difference in pain relief from different doses?

Hey Bentwar,
If 16mgs taken daily has been keeping your pain at bay, I would insist that they give you 16mgs. You could divide the 12mgs into 4 equal doses at 3mgs each. This would give you the 4 doses needed for pain control useing Buprenorphine.

Im not an expert in pain, but if you are fine at 16mgs then why experiment going lower. For pain, bupe needs to be dosed every four to six hours ...

Ill tex you later man..

Hi

I use bupe for pain & addiction. Like razor said, it's best to take smaller doses every 4-6 hours. Work with what you have and see if it controls your pain. If not tell the doctors you feel less pain on 16 mg a Day.

I have very good pain control. You are going in the right direction!
