Hi everyone,
I'm fairly new here but I've read many of your stories recently. I just thought I would introduce myself and tell you a bit of my story. I abused Vicodin and Tramodal for about 2 years. When I got completely sick of constantly worrying where I was going to get some pills, I went to a Sub Dr. He started me out on 12 mg. I quickly weened myself down to 8mgs. I stayed at that dose for a few months and then went down to 4mg. At that point I wanted off subs. So I started a slow taper. Over a few more months I tapered down to .25-.50. I was taking the tablets so it's really hard to know how much you're really taking. Anyway I'm on day 5 and still feel pretty bad. But I have to say, it could be a lot worse. I went to the whole foods store yesterday and bought DL-phenylalanine(DLPA) and it's a real lifesaver!!! It helps so much with the depression! Also bought Passion flower, L-theanine, L-Tyrosine, 5 HTP, and of course Immodium AD. I do feel like I will be able to get back out again today. Think I will go for a walk. One the hardest things for me is that I'm doing this completely alone and have no one to talk to. That doesn't help with the depression. I would really appreciate any kind words of encouragement anyone may have to offer.

Hey Riki,
First off, Welcome to the forum!
Personally, I have never tried to quit, so I can't really help you with advice. I want you to know we are all here for you and we are reading. I'm sorry, I am drained today from listening to my neighbors dogs barking at me for 2 freakin' days.(Babysitting them)

Day 5...that's great! I'm still on 1 mg so I cannot tell you how long until you begin to feel better but maybe one of the people here who have jumped will chime in and let you know. I'm thinking 12-14 days from jumping is when symptoms peak. Good for you for being prepared with vitamins, herbs and a positive attitude :) Attitude can "make or break" it!

I just wanted to jump in and lend my support. Hang in there, stay strong, and this will eventually pass....

BEST wishes
CA

Thanks for your kind words guys! It means so much. I just got back from a 1 mile walk and feel fantastic! I truly believe if you really want to lick this crap quicker, excercise and supplements are the way to go.

Day 6 now
Just wanted to give an update. I'm feeling even better today than yesterday. Went for another walk this morning. Will try another one later today. Fatigue seems to be the lingering symptom but not nearly as bad as it was even yesterday. So I guess I'm improving a bit every day.

Rikki....that depression can be a real kicker when trying to jump or taper from Subs. The silver lining is that it will dissapate so tell yourself over and over that this is all very temporary. So glad you are making yourself go walk; it's one of the best things you can do! The fatigue will pass also. You're on day 6....if you can hang on for another week, you should turn the corner. You're already past one week...you can do it!

BEST wishes
CA

Good for you Rikki! I'm glad that day 6 is bearable so far!

Do you have anything in mind to help you continue your recovery when your detox is done? I like SMART Recovery myself. It provides both the community and good tools too!

Here's hoping the day stays awesome for you!

Amy

Thanks CA for the encouragement! I do feel that I'm going to win this battle.
Amy I would love to be able to attend Smart Recovery but the nearest meeting is 30 miles away. I plan to attend NA.

Hey Rikki, have you noticed whether or not there are SMART meetings online? I've always wondered that.

Hey Imhurten!
Congrats on your taper. I'm on day 12 now and feeling so much better! I definitely recommend tapering down to .25 and skipping a day in between doses. I didn't do the skipping a day part and I think it made it more difficult for me. Good luck to you. You can do it!

Day 14! I'm almost back to normal! Although I'm not completely sure what normal feels like anymore. After so many years of abusing drugs my idea of normal is a bit distorted. I know in time it will all come back to me. I'm just so happy to not feel bad anymore!

Day 16
I was a bit fatigued day 15 and today. Just a little reminder that I'm in no way home free! It is definitely bearable although uncomfortable at work. Thanks for everyone's encouraging words!
