I HAVE BEEN ON SUBOXONE FOR 3 DAYS NOW AFTER USING HEROIN FOR SEVERAL MONTHS A HALF GRAM TO A GRAM A DAY. IT HAS BEEN 72 HRS SINCE MY LAST USE. I HAVE TAKEN ROUGHLY 10-12 MG A DAY SINCE. I DIDNT GET PRECIPITATED WITHDRAWLS SO I TAKE IT MY INDUCTION WENT PROPERLY. IN THE PAST LESS THEN 10-12 MG OF SUB WOULD HAVE DONE MUCH MORE THEN 10-12 MG IS DOING THIS TIME AROUND. DO I NEED TO TAKE MORE FOR A FEW WEEKS? WHAT AM I DOING WRONG, A WHOLE 8 MG TABLET BARLEY SEEMS TO DO ANYTHING, STILL ANXIOUS, PUPILS STILL DIALATED, STILL SWEATING, WHATS THE DEAL? ITS LIKE THE SUBS ARENT EVEN WORKING?
SOMEONE PLEASE PLEASE HELP, WILL THIS GO AWAY IF I JUST KEEP AT IT FOR A FEW DAYS, DO THE SUBS NEED TO CATCH UP OR WHAT? THANKS IN ADVANCE!

That sounds like precipitated withdrawal or the sub is not matching your tolerance. How was the induction? How long did you wait?

Okay, I'm hardly an expert and am new to recovery myself. But you state that it has been 72 hours since your last use (of heroin I'm assuming). And you say you've been taking suboxone for 3 days (which is 72 hours)...

If what I'm understanding is correct, then what your feeling IS precipitated withdrawals my friend.. You need to wait AT LEAST 24 hours after your last dose of heroin before you should take your first dose of suboxone.

Unfortunately, you will probably have to ride it out (for how long I do not know) before you should try to take any more suboxone. Hopefully someone with a little more knowledge on this matter can help you out.

Once again, I'm no expert. This is just MY opinion based on the knowledge I THINK I know..

Sorry that your going through that.. :(

Just went back to read some of your other threads.. There's really nothing that I could tell you that hasn't already been said by other members of the forum.

Your problem is waiting that 24 hours man, but you already knew that.. It seems like more people were on board to giving you support and guidance than I could have imagined.. And you need all the help you could get. But you have got plenty so far, and you just need to commit. Bottom line...

My only suggestion would be to see if you had anybody in person that could give you a hand in the 24 hour waiting period? Any family? Friends who aren't on drugs? Just anybody you could trust? If your really serious about getting through it, I know it's gonna sound extreme, but maybe allow yourself to be restrained for 24 hours at your OWN will..

I can't think of a better solution that hasn't already been mentioned. Good luck to ya...

If u got p/w best thing is to take your normal dose of sub every day and it will get better soon. Don't try and take a bunch of extra sub or use heroin. It won't really fix it.

Ya I don't think it's PWs I induced at a detox center. Wouldn't they know
I should take the first dose? I waited until they said it was ok to take it
I think it was something like 17 hours.
It did seem to help a tiny bit the first few days but they kept saying
It will help more in a couple days and that help never seemed to come.
I don't know what to do. No matter how long I wait it doesn't seem to help
Guess I'm re induce one more time this time wait a little more then 24 hrs
Thanks for the responses.

You guys think that maybe I need methadone for a few days?
I read online that some people with high enough tolerance need
Methadone just for a few days before subs

you just gotta stick with it.

once you induce, keep taking suboxone. By the time you 'give up' and use heroin again, you gotta take SO MUCH to 'break thru' the blocking effect, NO WONDER your tolerance is high. probably sky-high now.

Im not trying to sound like an asshole, I promise.

I think you would have felt alot better, if you would have taken 8 more mg of suboxone.
each day.

If you can get your tolerance down, before doing the induction again, that would help significantly.
I told ya before,,, I felt 'sick' for about a week and half when I started suboxone.
no, it wasnt FULL BLOWN w/d............
but Id say it was 50%

I dont know if that helps, but I wish you the best, I really do

It would most likely HELP your tolerance, if you stayed BELOW 80 mg??????

you'd have to go down to about 40 mg three days prior to induction.
that's about what I did, anyways.
when I posted the specifics for you before, I looked it up in my 'journal' LOL
and I dont know where the hell it is right now.

but I know I took over 100mg per day, up to a week before inducing.
the dropped to 60 a few days,
then 40 for two days,
then just oxy the day before.

did the oxy mid afternoon ,,, induced with suboxone, the very next morning. like 9am.

so, it might help.
the one thing is, you gotta stick with it, when you make the decision.

Hope this helps
Im still rooting for ya, jameson

I wouldn't suggest switching to methadone before trying sub again - it's too difficult to induce from it to sub. Are you still on sub right now but still having trouble? I agree fully with Amber. I don't think you suffered from precipitated withdrawals. If it were P/W, then you would have gotten violently ill pretty darn quickly after your first sub dose. You wouldn't just continue to feel the withdrawals. In fact, I'd go so far as to say you'd know, without question, if it was P/W.

In agreeing with Amber, I, too, believe that you just need to up your dose as your tolerance has obviously gone up. If I were you, I'd take about 2+ mg more and see if that does it. If it doesn't clear up all of your withdrawals, I'd add 1-2 mg from there. My point is you don't want to raise it more than necessary, because that will only raise your tolerance more.

Oh and if you've stopped sub but haven't taken any full agonist opiates, you don't have to go thru a full induction again. And since we don't think you suffered P/W, you also wouldn't need to go thru a full induction again. It's my opinion that you just need to continue on the sub, but up your dose until it addresses all of your withdrawals and cravings.

Lastly, allow me to stress once more than I'm NOT a doctor and this is just my non-medical, non-professional opinion based on nearly 4 years of experience and research about suboxone.

Good luck and do keep us posted on how you are doing.

what happened was I got the 3 days on subs after inducing after waiting it out for 17 hrs. Since the sub never ended up giving me any relief I started using again. Now I am desperate to get off this bullshit again. I am only using half as much dope as I was before i started on subs... So maybe this time starting the subs again with my tolerance lowered they will b more effective? I don't think it matters but its subutex im prescribed to not suboxone..I really wanna get on the subs and have my life back but unlike past times I dont have much faith in the subs giving me the relief I need anymore, for some reason they arent working like they used to...

THATS GOOD NEWS!!!!!
your using HALF as much?????

that WILL bring your tolerance down!!!

The thing is, , , , you HAVE to STICK WITH IT

Im sure it wasnt fun,,,, but dont get 'stuck' at 12 mg either, take 24 if you NEED to,,, to get relief. This is the fight of
YOUR LIFE,,,,,
man!!!!!!!
dont get stuck on a number, and dont expect 'too much' relief either. I mean, it was no picnic, when I induced. I felt mild w/d for about a week and half. (ten days?)
the GOOD news is, after day five or so,,,,,,, you feel better EVERY DAY
and there was risidual w/d symptoms for ME, for months afterward, but they came and went rather quickly. as time went on, the 'episodes' were further and further apart.

Im just trying to help.
is there any reason you didnt take more than 12mg/day the last time you tried?????

When I induced,
I didn't feel much of ANY relief, until I had taken 24mg.
and even then,,,,,,,,,

it took the 'edge' off. I still had RLS, and the sweats.
I had those two symptoms, for a week and half.

Just FYI

I really hope you can get thru this, when your really ready to

There is no easy fix for this. Suboxone or subutex is a tool to help get you off your drug of choice and make the situation tolerable but if you have a heavy habit of anything, it will be work to transition. It sounds like you're just trying to skate from one thing to the other. I'm not sure one can fully make the switch until they're ready to do the work but I hope you keep trying.

all i know is all the times in the past, i would b sick and once i dosed subs within 30 min i was feeling much better and had absolutely no withdrawal symptoms. Now when i stop using and dose sub it doesn't take any of the withdrawal symptoms away what so ever.
