I'm new here but not new to Subs. I have been on them 7 years which, believe it or not is a lot longer then I was on pain pills. Early last year I made the choice to seriously start weinding off of subs. I feel, in my opinion if you do a long taper you will not suffer any withdraws while your still on it. Lets' fast forward to 7 days ago which was my last dosage of .50mgs of film. My doctor who is a pain speacialist gave me a whole bunch of meds that he called a withdraw protocol I guess that's a layman term for me. It included Clonodine, and a muscle relaxer, something for sleep and something for nausea and anxiety. All of which did little to nothing for me. But it's not all doom and gloom. All you have to do is make it to day 3 or 4 depends on the individual and what dose you came off of. I came off of 1.5mgs. Maybe those meds will help you all but I have a very weak stomach so they did nill for me. Now let me tell you what I suffered which is probably the same as anyone else. Lack of sleep and unreal irritability of the stomach and lower back and vomiting. Don't worry though because it will pass in a few days and once you get pass that the sun starts coming up. On day 6 which was yesterday I had to go see my doctor because I was pissed that I couldn't get decent sleep. And I had to suggest valium (no refill and only enough to get me to day 8) to help me sleep comfortable. Im glad my dr got me on subs and he forced me to go to meetings also. Without the meetings I would've never have gotten my head straight. Right now on day 7 I feel good, except I still feel like im packing 100lbs on my back when I walk but I can eat now and sleep decent which is key to getting better. Can't believe after 7yrs im done. During day 1 though 3 I stared at my cabinet where my subs are and kept telling myself I can make all this go away with just on little film. But I held strong and im stoked now. Another thing that helped me was reading a book called Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell. The ordeal that he to endure just to live gave me great inspiration not to eat a sub and take the easy way out. I hope this helps anyone who is condsidering coming off subs. Thanks

Hi there,

Would you mind if perhaps you share this "comfort med protocol" with us?

I'd like to see what it is the doctor prescribed to help you.

Thanks,

-Jen

with or without comfort meds i am happy for you. i am almost 2 months off subs and went through what you did except i didn't have any vomiting. congrats on quitting i jumped at a way higher dose but it isn't that bad doing it that way just takes 5 or 6 days to feel withdrawals. glad you are sleeping better once you are able to get sleep it isn't so bad
