Hi y'all. I've been on subutex for about a month and doing great. My doctor always calls in my prescription to the pharmacy. Long story short, I don't have insurance for the next couple of next couple of months and found a different pharmacy with lower costs. My doc has already called in my prescription to the first pharmacy. Can I just get the pharmacies to transfer it? Thanks!

Some docs require people to use one pharmacy, so you may want to call and leave the message that you are changing. As for laws, they vary from state to state. WI allows you to move a prescription, but controlled substances can only be moved once-- i.e. if you move it from walgreens to kmart, you cannot then move it from kmart to somewhere else.

Changing pharmacies used to be a way for people to get away with early refills, doctor shopping, etc-- but now most states have prescription databases, where all meds are entered into a site at the time they are dispensed. Now it is almost as if there is one huge pharmacy, because now pharmacists and doctors can see everything you are taking, when and where it was filled, etc.

Thank you! I'll call my doc/pharmacy and ask. He had already called me in a very small refill at the other pharmacy today (guess I should have mentioned that's when I realized the lower price) since the original pharmacy is out of stock currently. So I'm assuming he'd have no problems with me switching pharmacies. He can be hard to get a call back from sometimes, so that's why I came here first.

Of course you can. Its YOUR script. Unless you have State health insurance you would have to call them and tell them you want to switch pharmacies. They cant tell you your not allowed to. If you dont have health insurance you dont even need to ask to be switched. Just go to pharmacy where your doctor called in your script and tell them you want to have them transfer the script

Gorilla, actually you're wrong. Depending on the state, regulations regarding controlled substance prescriptions vary.
Some states allow one transfer, some don't allow any at all.
You can check this by searching your state + board of pharmacy regulations.
