I've tried 3 times to respond to a private message sent to me. It never leaves my Outbox and it never lands in my "Sent Items".

I've also tried to start a new message to the same person & the same thing is happening.

I really want to respond to this very kind message from a valued Forum Friend.

Can anyone help me with this little issue?

Thanks!

PS. I finally just deleted all 3 messages from my Outbox and tried to respond to the initial PM again. Same thing happened.

Hi Dee,

Let me explain a bit about our messaging system. When you compose a message and click "submit" the message goes to your outbox. The only way that the message will move from your outbox to your "sent" messages is if the person you are messaging reads your message!

The point is that you are doing all the right things! The problem is that the person you are sending messages to is not opening up your message and reading it! Your message is sitting in the recipient's "inbox" until they read it. While this system is not totally straightforward, it does let you know if your message has been read.

Sometimes when this happens I will respond to a post the recipient has posted in the forum and just say, "Hey, I sent you a message but it doesn't look like you've gotten it!" That might clue the person in.

Amy

Oh thank you soooo much Amy! I understand completely now. Okay, I deleted the 3 sitting in my Outbox and have responded again from her original PM. Now when she signs in when she gets the chance it will be there for her.

Again, thank you for your prompt reply. I was afraid I was doing something incorrectly.

Every Forum works a little differently. Glad I understand the PM system now.

You're a doll!

Thanks,
Dena

That was a great question Dee! One that periodically needs to be talked about. We mods do not discuss the tools needed to get the most out of this website. If you ask, we respond like Amy so kindly did.

What I like about the Outbox system is knowing if that person I sent it to has logged in since I sent it. A lot of times I'll let it sit in there until I check their profile and find out that they haven't even logged in for a month or so. Then I'll decide whether to delete it or wait longer for them to come back.

In the Microsoft world you would need to ask for a receipt to know if the person read it or not. Our way is much more easy to understand and requires nothing more than a click.

Thanks for bringing up a subject we rarely touch on. Your question will help countless others who read it.

Glad that I could help Rule! Communication on a site like this can be so important. I was pleased to get such a quick answer from our Mods. You're all so great!
