So my son is towards the end of his morphine wean (was on subutex .5 before giving birth) He is on his last dose- .06 . The weekend doc "suggested" that if I still take bupe maybe bottle feeding at this time would benefit him. Yes I do take bupe still and increased my dose to about 1.5 daily. I figured it would help him and me.He does get formula about 1/3 of the time to help get him full- NAS babies eat a lot and poop alot. I would think just bottle feeding would work against him? The other doc said such a small amount of subutex gets in the breast milk anyway. I nursed like crazy after he was born to have him NOT have w/d. Didn't work at all! What do you all think ? I obviously want to continue nursing..and the nurse said it was just a suggestion. But I've been doing all I can to help get good scores..And I will continue to do anything I can. Because after this dose he gets cut off and watched for 48 hours..So far he has been on morphine for 2 weeks. If all works out with the wean ..it will be a total of 18 days. Any advice would help. Thank you!

I would continue nursing him as it is the best nutrition available. I don't understand the reasoning of the weekend doctor at all. What was his rationale?

I plan on continuing nursing..just talked to her. I don't know her reasoning but she told me since I take so little to keep nursing..Its the best thing for him.He just got his "last dose"..hoping and praying he does good for the next 48 hours.
