i have an appointment with a suboxone dr. tomorrow. i wanted to stop taking opiates two days before my appointment but was hurting and sick. my daughter, who is already taking suboxone, gave me one of hers. i'm worried that when i go to my appointment and have a positive drug screen for suboxone, the dr. won't prescribe them for me.

Hi,

I wouldn't worry too much that you already took a suboxone. Many people take suboxone or purchase them on the street before they legally go in to see a suboxone doctor. I would, however, be honest about it and say that you have taken suboxone and let them know how it is working for you.

And, tell your doctor that you are now wanting to get the medication the "right" way.

Good luck with your appointment and keep us posted on your journey.

I would recommend that you are forthcoming with the amount of suboxone you took and your response. If you already have induced it makes my job much easier, a bit off the landscape* but acceptable. Some doctors may not accept you, but they are devil's spawn and not worth your time or money.
Be prepared to have some extra scrutiny in the form of more frequent UA's and appts for awhile but once you demonstrate you are fully engaged it should relax.
I have had a couple people come in already on sub, not a big deal. I thought they were being proactive, if it hadn't gone well I assumed they never would have come in.
Welcome to your recovery, PAX

*I almost said reservation, old habits, I hope Washington's football team changes their name soon.
