Is it normal to have upper abdominal pains on suboxone. Some times the pain is excruciating.

No, not common.. It could be as simple as bad indigestion. Or his stomach could be irritated, he could have an ulcer from stress or drinking.. Or it could be more serious (pancreatitis, etc) so it's always better to be on the cautious side.

If he just induced today, though, and is going though pricipitated withdrawals, his pain may be displaced. It's not uncommon to think pain is coming from one location when it's really coming from another. Usually it's your lower abdomen with precipitated withdrawals.

If he doesn't want to, or can't see a doctor, he should try an antacid. I doubt it would hurt any and it could be as simple as that.

When my ulcer acts up it feels like my upper abdomen. Also when I get a touch of anxiety or experience withdrawl I get pain and tightness in my upper abdomen right below my sternum. Sometimes it goes straight through my body into my back.

I've had hip pain that is referred from my ankle.
Excruciating pain is not typical side effect for sub- definitely need to see a doctor and please keep us updated.
